Do any of you Canadians know of any fires up in the Grasslands Park or Cypress Hills areas? Reason I ask is that we were moving some cows this morning- 6AM the sky was beautiful and clear- by 10AM the creek bottom had socked in so bad with smoke you couldn't see but about 1/4 mile- wind coming out of the NW...No one knew of any local fires- and I perceived there was a pine smell to the smoke so thought it may be coming from some woodlands in Canada....

Just found out today where the smoke had come from- I guess there was a good sized fire in the grasslands park area, that burned down to within a 1/2 mile of the border....

Today we have smoke even worse- terrible visibility, burns your eyes, irritates the lungs so bad they have been advising the elderly and people with breathing problems to stay inside...But you can still smell it there...Really settled in the valleys....

Weather boys say it is coming out of Idaho- the jet stream finally got back down here from being up in Canada for a month and is giving us westerly flows, bringing in the smoke....But it hasn't brought any cool weather yet- 101 again now....

Oldtimer here's a link to a site that shows where the fires are and the area that the smoke covers that is coming from it. I just came accross this site and am trying to figure out how to use it.
