Canning beets

Mine has cabbage cut up small....potatoes onions, tomatoes and hot peppers.....served with a skillet of cornbread. :)

But I gotta make a trip to the grocery store for cabbage....don't have any right now. :(

On beets...I had close to the same experience as Soapweed...only my
mom went to the PTA meeting and asked if kids who hated beets had
to eat them or else...

but now I kind of like beets. And on our trip to Canada/Alaska someone
serve pickled beets and they were delicious. When I remarked how
good they were, I was told they were just cooked beets and then put
in the juice of bread and butter pickles and just left to sit in the refrigerator. They were really good!!

On cabbage...when we visited SSAP, she fixed a beef pot roast; potatoes, carrots, onions and CABBAGE WEDGES.
Yes, she just took a head of cabbage and made big wedges and stuck down in with the roast. I'll tell you what,
that was really good eating. Now, I cook my roasts in BEER (thanks, katrina) with cabbage wedges (thanks SSAP).
Yum...think I'll fix this tomorrow... :D

Wonderful ideas for dinners.... I too put my cabbage and carrots in with a roast. We put vinegar and butter on them then to eat.... I have my carrots left to do.... I think I will roast a bunch to make pumkin pie.... I love carrots instead of pumpkin for pie.. And of coarse I will be pickleing them for pickles...

Huh....never heard of carrots for a pumpkin pie.....now sweet taters yes....tastes just like pumpkin....But never carrots. Interesting.

Mr Lilly likes pepper sauce (hot peppers with vinegar over them sealed for a while so the heat comes out) on his cabbage.
