cargill emerald mineral with aureomycin and BioMOS

A good midwestern rain will cake any mineral up pretty good.. But we just took a hammer to it and broke the crust off the top and underneath was loose enough for them to get to it... Eventually they other stuff broe down enough that they got it too.. Or maybe I flip the bunk and dumped it out... Great, my memory is shot.. This was Vigertone.. We used a customn blend 2 years ago that a feed and grain mixes up.. It wasn't bad but it was real dusty and blew away when the wind got going, which is almost every day.. But if it rained it did set up like concrete and might as well be thrown away as there was no saving it..Also didn't seem to be very homgenous when you poured it out, like the ingrediant settled a bit.. Oh well...

the best thing about the Vigertone to me was that it smelled good. Not as nice smelling as the Mormons but sure better than the other ones we used... And to be honest, it probably doesn't matter if it smelled good to me but had to think that if it smells good it probably tastes pretty good too.

Yep, you are right, IL Rancher.

Don't forget the yeast culture when looking at the ingredients.
Very, very important for rumen function.

Vigortone has done intensive research on particle size.
Their particle size is what was found was more available to the cow;
meaning cattle can break it down and utilize this
particle size better. Also
Vigortone doesn't 'settle out' like many minerals, so it stays
the same from beginning to end when you pour a bag out.

Vigortone is an industry leader...been around for 90+ years.

Moorman's was a good mineral, but you can't even buy it here
anymore. And it got really expensive.
Also, Moormans own most of the soybean plants who
are competing with cattle ranchers for the consumers protein dollar.

I always considered Moormans to be a registered cow mineral. I don't want my cows to acquire a taste for anything that costs that much. I've been well-pleased with my Evergreen minerals, but all of this Vigortone talk has got me wanting to try some.

Texan, here's a little story for you.

A friend of ours runs a ranch at Marietta, OK. The owner is a cutting
horse man. They get fresh cutting cattle every so often and they are
in tough shape when they come in. Our friend switched over to Vigortone
on those cattle and what a difference it has made. Last batch, they
didn't have to treat any AND they gained 2.4 lbs. a day. That's the
MOST any cattle have ever gained there. And they always LOSE some
and treat a bunch. PM me and I'll give you the name of the ranch.

Try it!!! You'll like it! Makes your life easier...

Spent about 20 minutes on the phone with the Vigertone rep today... Nice guy, going to come out and visit me in December to work out a year long program... You were right about the mineral for Distillers Grain FH but for a second he was recomended something else until he heard I had a TMR here.. Force feed 3 ounces a day and give some free choice was his recomendation.. The other one he recommened was 3V4S I think but said we would have to put out some free choice salt too as it was low in Na or something... It was 4:1 instead of 6:1 I think... But he though the 36 would work better since we have the mixer wagon to blend it with the Distillers.

Oh well, I do like the product and so do the cows... ONly problem is that now I owe the elevator money again, lol...

Doubt? Me.... Nooooo, how could I.. :P

Start up on Distillers in the morning.. Glad they had 1/2 ton of mineral on hand for me at the elevator cause I was just about plum out...

At least I've got you guys looking at tags!!!

Don't want to put words in Denny's mouth but I think he meant
the mineral he mentioned was like "dirt in a bag"...in other words,
they don't amount to much. :P

As for the 'corn distillers dried grain with solubles' there is only
enough to keep the yeast active. When mineral contains 'grain
by products' it will get hard when wet. Vigortone stands up to
weather very well. No grain to clump or sour. If Vigortone gets
wet, unless it is a deluge, it will get a hard crust on the very top.
Go in and break it up and the cows will go right back and eat it.
No so with mineral that contains grain. It will set up more like
concrete and the cattle won't touch it.

Remember, tags are one thing and can easily be duplicated.
Ingredients are a different story. Vigortone has a slogan, "They
copied what we put on the tag; they should have copied what
the put in the bag."

Vigortone is a performance mineral. Cattle really perform on it.
The new "Next Generation" mineral will have a slightly different
tag, John, and will come in a white and blue bag. They added more
zinc (7500 ppm), took out all the iron as iron ties up copper and
added more Vitamin A. They did away with the mineral oil to settle
the dust, as it is a petroleum product and they now use soybean oil.
DDG may be good for the yeast, but it's also necessary for palatability...never seen a mineral without it that has good reliable consumption, but you're right....too much will affect weatherization.
