I have notice at some of the beefcow disperals that some of the auctioners will not take $10 bids only $25. What is your opinion on this, If i am the seller $810 is better than $800 and if I am the buyer $800 is better than $825. I know if I say my calves in the fall every $1 bid helps! :)

Welcome back50. Were you perchance at Carson's on Saturday? I wanted to get there to see how the herd from Dungannon sold but couldn't make it.

I don't understand auctioneers, other than the fact that most of them think they are smart enough to set the market. Especially at bred cattle sales, they waste a lot of hot air trying start every bunch at $3-500/head higher than they will sell for. I think if they would just start them low and get a lot of bidding action, things would go faster and they would still get the bidding emotions going in their favor.

Wonder if it was some relation? Dungannon is my mom's home town.

Howard's and Hogan's herd. I know that they were just like me - wondering how long you hang on and now they've pulled the plug. Good people who had a good system. Just a bugger to see that kind of people quit the cattle because they were not just overnighters.

i agree Richard, it bothers the hell out of me. Ft. Pierre could be the worst for that.......they will do that on very single critter that walks in the ring

Yes Steve and Lawerence had very good cattle We picked up 4 hfs, I thought some of the cows where pretty big framed , but in saying that it sounds like they where doing a good job for them, it is sad to see how the cattle industry is here in ontario, let alone Canada is., lots of cow/calf guys getting out, another big disperal at Carsons next Saturday.

I did not stay for the whole sale, but I thought the one I seen sold good. One pair of old cows brought $650, but most of them where between $1000 and 1150 , when you consider where stockers are and the price of culls I thought then done well, but in saying that when you have a disperal like they did, it is never enought.
