How do your prices compare to ours?

And whats a shelly cow?

Katy

Local places don't do feeder sales this time of the year so I couldn't tell you what we are doing local.. Would take some hunting to find calf prices but I bet I could with out much effort.

Shelly cow? I have no clue...

Here is one cobined for Illinois last week.. NOt a lot of trade going on, dead time of year really for the livestock barns..

Iowa's price seemed to be a lot stronger than Illinois but that is not to surprising.. Our markets tend to be good only a few times a year or, if you go to a calf sale you might get asome extra money because more buyers will be there. Timing is everything or bypass the barns and get a god relation with a feeder/ feed them yourself.

our cattle sales for steady all year round mostly, but the prices are all over the place sometimes!! and i dont understand why you get more money for the lighter animals!

A shelly cow is a cow that that is in bad shape droughted out and on the lift usually been dry for a long time and most of the time half dead and older than time itself .

We sold fats for $86.75 @1267pds and some dry cows from$58.50 @ 1440pds up to $57.00 @1780pds..... Bulls 1865 @69.75 pds down to $66.50 for the same weight.... That's how it is here........

I think all our prices are somehow the same when we go to the sale barn.........either we wanted more or needed more and didn't feel like we quite got it. :)

( I will say there are the times that a person is plesently surprised when they get more then what they wanted. However I never think we get what we think they are worth! :) ) The buyer sits thinking they gave more then they were worth......... :D

www.equitycoop.com is a good website to get livestock prices for Wisconsin ,Iowa and Minnesota cattle prices. They have feeder sales year round.

There are not very many sale barns left in this area - - -however I have two with in ten miles. With the drought we have been having here the cow prices are off about 30% and claf prices are off some - - - I believe outside buyers are helping by coming here and taking the claves to better areas.

This would be a great time for someone to stock up if they had the feed.

With the rain we got last week things are looking better but we are not out of the woods yet.

I intend to wean early and cull very heavily unless something changes - - - hay is very hard to find and double the cost of last year.

Hey NR, did thoose fats go to XL or was that alberta bound.... also is that a net price in the yard, or is there trucking on top of that???

That was net to me picked up at the feedlot in Vegreville-they were sold to Cargill on the grid-they were 98% AAA's or better so the grid was pretty kind to us.
