From one-bull herds to sprawling ranches with thousands of cows, the smell of money is getting pretty heady in cattle country.
Cow/calf producers are firmly on the right side of today's supply versus demand dynamic. Live prices for yearling steers (650 pounds), for example, were averaging $151 per hundredweight (cwt) in the middle of July compared to $137 per cwt a year earlier. And Omaha corn prices were building on the positive feelings, coming in at $5.71 per bushel compared to $7.78 per bushel a year ago.
