Cell Phone Companies

I got my first cell phone (the old bag phone) from Nebraska Cellular in September 1992. Times have changed, phones have changed, and God knows the company's name has changed a dozen times since then. Now it's Alltel, which is part of the Verizon network now. For the last 6 months all it has been is trouble with Alltel...either the billing is all messed up or the tower is down for over a week and all they will credit you is about 1/8th of your bill. I just love paying for things I don't receive! Bottom line is I'm ready to dump Alltel.

I know Jigs has US Cellular and gets along great with it. I have some customers with USC and they report the same thing as Jigs. From their website it looks like I could add one more phone to a USC plan and still be paying $80/month less than with Alltel. The wife and I both have Blackberries and we just hate them! My old Razr was as good a phone as this piece of garbage I have now. I do like the my circle plan Alltel has, but with enough free minutes and nights and wekends what difference does it make?

Viaero has a tower a mile from home, but 6 miles in any direction except north and you are roaming or out of service. Maybe in 10 years they will have enough towers to be OK but they sure don't for now. The Kansas/Nebraska border area is kind of cell phone hell, anyway.

What provider do you guys use, and are you happy with them? I'll probably have to pay Alltel to ditch them, which is OK, but I don't want to pay to get out of the frying pan only to find myself in the fire! Is there a company out there I'm overlooking?

We have ATT and its ok. I just like there is no charge if you call anyone with an ATT phone or any of the companies ATT merged with. I use to have a Tracfone and it was great I think it would pick up any wear, but I was always putting minutes on it and it was getting costly. I use to have T-mobile and I got so feed up with it one day it went flying out the window by itself.

At least you have choices. We have Verizon and Alltel and since Verizon bought Alltel they have a deadline to sell off the Alltel portion so we're playing the waiting game to see who might step in and be a new provider in this area.

Maybe we should all pool our money and send up a satellite :)

Having had alltel I also can say it's not the wonder phone company in my opinion either. Here there is also Verio (sp) that I haven't looked to much into but their ads are saying they'll buy out the alltel contracts.

I've got US Cellular and have had no issues with them. Prior to US Cellular, I had Verizon and no issues with them either, it was the wife who wanted to switch to USC

Kinda wished I was still with Verizon has they have the ESPN application for cell phones, not to mention a bigger "non-roaming area" than USC. Went to South Dakota last summer for a fam-dam reunion and no sooner got north of Sioux City on I-29 and the phone went to roaming and stayed on roaming until the trip home

Mine is ATT and it's pretty good. No roaming or long distance in all 50 states. Free calls to other ATT phones. Unlimited minutes nights and weekends and roll-over minutes since i have had the plan when they were Singular. There are days i wish cell phones were never invented and ya could get away from the ratrace! But thats progress! I make up for the hassle by having an elk bugle as a ringtone! :D

living in a town named after a great Indian warrior, I would think you should be using smoke signals!

Verizon Wireless for a long time, it sucks at my house. Usually OK. I don't like the fact that they lock out some features on phone software to force you to buy content from them.
