Chainsaw Chaps

I will never operate a chainsaw without Chaps again, they saved me from getting a bad laceration to the left side of my shin yesterday. The polyester wrapped around the blade into the gear on the clutch and stopped the saw instantly. Cut up my my chaps, even the backside was slightly cut through. My pants, let alone my leg, untouched. I was cutting some Alders with the saw down by the ground on its side when it kicked back into my leg.

when I was about 10 or so, we were cutting wood, dad had a saw kick back and cut right through his kneecap. was very close to taking his ligaments. the truck was down in a big draw, and mom is not a very good driver in those situations, so dad is driving out of there, and mom is sitting beside him holding his knee together !! (insert you "might be a redneck" jokes here)

they stopped at the grandparents to drop us off, so they could go to the hospital, but before they could go, grandma had to come inspect the cut....pulled the pants back and opened up the cut to see how bad it was...... heck, she probably even called the doctor to give her opinion on how to go about fixing it !!!

so we all have saws with the kickback lock on them now!

Those things need to be worn, especially if operating a "Bow" saw.

Glad ya missed that one! :shock:

Hubby (in the pre-me years) had one kick back and caught him in the face......got his ear, cheek and nose. Fortunately, it wasn't bad (at least it could have been a lot worse) and he's got a few pretty faded scars from it. If you don't know they're there, you probably wouldn't notice.

That was back in his "logcutter" days........when he couldn't find a good cowboy job.
