Be careful Texan, you start talking about M-COOL and how irrelevant it is, those that embrace M-COOL like it is the Holy-Grail, will want to have you excommunicated, from the cattle industry.

The irrelevance of M-COOL...

How do you figure?
That's my take on the stats from the article OT posted, Sandhusker. M-COOL for seafood started in 2005, didn't it?

With that in mind, and reading from OT's article:

China became the leading exporter of seafood to the U.S. in 2004 – and amounts are rising fast. Chinese imports were up 14 percent in 2005...

Since 2005 was the first year for M-COOL for seafood and didn't include a whole year, let's throw that one out. How about 2006?

....and [up] 23 percent in 2006.

Looks like Chinese seafood imports were up pretty high in the first full year of M-COOL, doesn't it?

And it only gets worse this year:

This year, so far, they are up 34 percent over 2006.

Maybe some of that increase from China involved knocking out some imports from other countries, but I doubt if all of it was. It looks to me like the consumer is buying that crap regardless of origin and regardless of government mandating a label as to origin.

The typical consumer just doesn't give a sht about anything except cheap. :(

COOL is only the first piece. Now, the marketing needs to kick in. Educate the people on how the Chinese do business.

Sandhusker, Go into any of the big box stores, and you will find more products from China than from the USA. We are now in one of the biggest beef re-calls, for e-coli in this country, from beef produced in this country and there will be more in the future. Just how exactly, do you want to educate consumers, on how American companies that have product made/or are manufacturing product in China are doing business? Don't you believe that the multi-national corporations are already educating consumers, with pricing. Tyson, has joined into a partnership with a Chinese poultry processer, there will be others in the future that will do the same. Walk down the streets of Hong Kong, you will see thousands of American business-men and women making deals in China.

All wanting to make a fast buck with no REGARD to human or livestock food safety. If they were interested in the US. infrastructure or Homeland Security with food ,feed, or product safety,WE would not have had any recalls.

As for beef safety in the last recall ,I would like to know of all origins of all trim that made up this 6.0 million pounds of recalled ecoli H-7 product and the sources of the 11,000 head of cattle that was used to make the 6.0 million pounds of beef. The chances of that information are 0 to non unless someone proves me wrong !

Porker, and what good would it be if you knew the origin of those cattle? Tomorrow it would be a different processing plant, different work shift, different feedlot! Until the cattle producers of this country, take back the control of our industry, this will always be the case. If, you are waiting for someone/something else to change this for you, well they are, making changes for our industry and I don't care for their changes, do you?

As far as your comment about, Americans in Hong Kong, with no regard for human or livestock food safety. I know some of those people and you are wrong, they do care. I'm not to sure that I care about Homeland Security though.
