That's similar to what it can look like in our barn on the hill. Except
inside the barn is dry. We put a horse barn on the same level as the
house and that's a much better place for a calving barn where we are.
Getting a calving cow up the hill to the barn is sure no fun. Lots to think
about when building a calving barn, that's for sure. Good luck with
yours.

Mr. FH uses portable panels in our barn so when we are done calving
he can take them down and put them out of the way.

Actually the barn will be where they have calved for years. The water comes flowing down the hill and right into the barn. The cinder block wall that is set against the hill side is falling in and leaking.

Years ago I tried to get a cow in labor off of the hill. Didn't work.

We also discussed the portable panels so they can be removed for easier cleaning.
We've had cows die in that barn and trying to get them out is a royal pain. Had times in which we needed to keep pairs inside, but had no room for them.
will have to take a picture of the new barn I designed last night on my computor.
Mr. ILH loved what I came up with. A large pen for straw bales and the calf warmer. Sick pens and one for my milk cow. 7 pens for pairs and a pen for pulling calves. Double doors on each end large enough to get a tractor in it.
