for my FIL. He's been taking Chemo for a good while now. Not large doses....and he doesn't get sick or anything. But he's always cold. So I thought...ok every denim quilt I've ever made...everyone has said they are the warmest thing they've ever slept under.
I'm making him a quilt. Have kicked myself several times already for the pattern I picked....really not a pattern...it's kinda random, and made entirely out of old blue jeans. But it's turning out to be a lil on the tedious side. But that's ok..I'll finish it in time...I will I will....

Back up a couple days/weeks/months. My sewin machine crapped out a good while back. Took it in....and they said it was official. Not worth fixin. So we looked at new ones. I made my choice. And Mr Lilly said he was gonna buy me a new one for Christmas.

Wait a stinkin minute here...I use my sewin machine at this time of the year more than any other time...to make presents. I always have. So I'm gettin a lil upset because I borrowed MIL's machine...it didn't work...she told me she had another one...couldn't find it....so Saturday mornin Lil Lilly and I loaded up and headed to College Station to buy myself a new machine. Got it...got home...and have been in there sewin away off and on since. Think I finally laid it down about 2 am this mornin.....This is what I've gotten done so far...even tho it's tedious I sure am likin the way this is lookin. Even if it is a lil different, blocks are about 1 ft square, this is 8 blocks. So the finished lap quilt will be about 4 ft by 6 ft....perfect size for tv watchin in the lazy boy. I've got 9 blocks made....15 more to go....

The quilt you made for Heather is the warmest quilt she ever had..and useses it alot...so this lap quilt will be perfect for him...hmmmmm..maybe I need a lap quilt..is it gaureented to handle Nebraska weather??? or is it just a Texas warm weather quilt...lol? He'll love it! Glad ya finally got a sewing machine that you like...

Now how would I be able to guarantee it for a Nebraska winter....??? hehe

I do know this....I have made the kids quilts when they were little (babies) and they still use them. I've made both of them quilts for their beds...and they use those there...but they bring their baby blankets to the livin room when they watch tv. And these things seem to literally last forever LOL

That looks like nice workmanship! It will be treasured by the lucky recipient I'll bet.

I once saw a denim quilt that was all squares about 6" and they were sewn together with the seams sticking out so there was fringe between each block. I told myself it would be so easy to make and it would hold up better than anything storebought.....but that was years ago and I haven't got around to it yet.

Thanks for all the kind words my friends,it's been hard on my wife and her brother, but he was in alot of pain and this last week was'nt even able to drink water ,and had been eating out of a stomach tube for almost a year.So we know he's not in pain anymore,we've got a close and loving family and friends and will make it through and remember him for the great guy he was.Hope this morning finds everyone well.

Very nice quilt. Great job!. I hope your FIL will be ok.

Blkbuckaroo, Sorry about your FIL.
My hubby just started Chemo on Tuesday. Prognosis is not good for him. He has stage 4 lung cancer which has spread to the lymph nodes, adrenaline glands and liver. The Dr told him on Tuesday that if he wanted to go and see his kids in Alberta for Xmas that he should go, this will be his last one.
