Coccidiosis

Coccidiosis we have 11 new calves on the ground some 6 weeks old some a week old. We are having white stools looks like tooth paste. How do you nip it in the bud quickly?

Thanks for any info.
 
Bovatech or rumensin in the mineral is suppose to help I've never done it. We give our cows all scour boss 9 vaccinations prior to calveing I've never had much success with treating scours once I get it I might as well dig a hole.

There is some blood not a lot but blood has been seen. Thanks Denny for the info.
 
I agree with little bow rancher about the cocci. If they are not squirting and are still nursing you might not have much of a problem.
 
Albond. Is my drug of choice in dogs. It sure can fool ya. U vac for parvo and might think u got it, but cocsidia has simular simptons. We use the cattle med. It just really needs to be shook up good everytime. Hope uve over your illness. Shingles are a bad deal. Call me.

I agree with the others... sounds like ordinary scours. The cocci I've seen presents with critters passing what appears to be pure blood, watery not pasty.

It could be your cows' milking some real high quality milk.... think about backing off the amount of protein you're feeding. As far as treatment, calves in distress, bloating or kicking their stomachs, I still have good luck with penicillin and a dose of Clostridium Perfringens C & D Antitoxin given Sub-Q.
 
On Calves, we often try Probios first as what you describe seems more like rich milk. Unless it is watery, it sounds like milk not getting fully digested.

You might even try yogurt
 
scour boss is a great preventive measure but for this year your next new calves there is a bolus called first defense you have to give it to the calf in the first a or 10 hours my vet swears by it i have never had a calf get scours that i ve given the bolus to. I bought some heifers in jan that weren't scour garded and the vet recommanded giving all the calfs out of them this bolus
