Colorado buffaloes use Nebraska symbol on new golf course

ERIE, Colo. — In an event where black and gold were the colors of the day, it was something painted red and white that signified "University of Colorado" more than anything.

At Saturday's dedication festivities for Colorado National Golf Club -- the new home for CU's golf teams -- parked on the side of the putting green was a range-ball picking vehicle colored red and white, with a Nebraska football helmet on the roof and an "N" emblazoned on the front.

Keep in mind that range-ball pickers are often the target of people hitting balls on the practice range, and what better target for a CU fan than a symbol of the NU football team, long a dreaded nemesis of the Buffs.

And guess whose idea it was to decorate this bull's-eye of sorts with Husker symbols? None other than CU football coach Dan Hawkins, who attended Saturday's function.

And so it went Saturday at Colorado National's official grand opening, attended by a who's who of CU athletics, past and present. Despite a cold, overcast morning, several hundred CU faithful turned out for dedication ceremonies complete with the singing of the school fight song

They think we've got a rivalry. However, I don't understand how there can be a rivalry when one team has won 80% of the games in the series.

because Nebraska is so easy to hate.

tonight, on Sports Nightly, your state wide husker puke fest radio, the guys were going off about hating Notre dame, USC, and Tim Tebow.....all because they are over done in the media, and live on past laurels... I found it funny, because they were so blind they did not realize they were describing the very thing I hate about NU.

although they did an interview later with the UNO AD, ( former Husker, name escapes me now) and it sounds like he wants to grow UNO into a bigger deal than the Huskers !!!

might get interesting! going to pop up to D I ball....imagine a NU and UNO bowl game!

That would be Trev Alberts. I don't think you'll ever see UNO in D1 - at least not for a long, long time. They just don't get the support they ought to have. They already do have a D1 hockey program, and I think he is going to make that his flagship program, as he should. Omaha has always been a hockey town, and if he can get the Mavs competitive again, he'll have something to build on.

UNO already has a good wrestling and womens volleyball program, too. Seems to me that they were ranked in softball last year, too.

Trev said there is a conference that needs a 12th team, and NOW is the time to act.... sounds like he wants to push it up and get into D1 as soon as possible.

you have tickets to see NU in the baseball tourney?

Our baseball team went from perenial contender on the national scene to maybe not contending with the better high-school teams in one year. We had 4 pitchers drafted last year and it shows this year.

Don't kid yourself it's not that we think we have a rivalry, we just don't like you. At least not in my family.

My son spent 4 years at Offut AFB, in Omaha, serving his country and hated every minute of it because of the way he was treated by the locals. He regularly voluntered for Saudi, saying that the weather was better and the people were nicer. The sad thing is we could care less where someone is from as long as they act right while they are here. My boy tried to do some volunteer wrestling coaching while he was there and after they found out where he was from all they did was give him crap. No wonder he was so glad to leave. Especially since he was there waiting to bu released from the Air Force on 9/11, and was invited to stay an extra 6 months by Uncle Sam. The best part of that for him was he won enough on the CU-Neb game that year to make a nice downpayment on a new truck and pay for a quarter of college when he got out. So we do thank ya"ll for that.

Personally Nebraska is just an inconvenience to me. Since I pretty much have to cross it to get to South Dakota every year so that I can drop a couple thousand dollars hunting in a state where we are treated with respect and even welcomed despite our license plates.

So good for you and good for your football team, cuz when they suck and the last few years they do suck you have nothing else.

Oh I'm sorry you always have your weather and that scenery.

Now I guess we get to see if you take it, as well as you hand it out. Don't even bother, since according to my son you DON"T

Sorry if your son was given some guff, 3-way, because most Husker fans will try to provide an example for Buff fans on how to treat others, because 99% of them sure as heck don't know how to act.

If you do a little research on the net, you'll find example after example of visiting fans being amazed at the great treatment they got at Memorial Stadium. You ought to look up the USC site after they came to Lincoln and kicked our butts, we were congratulating them and buying them drinks, picking up their meal tabs,etc.... Has that ever happened in Boulder?

What happens in boulder is that beer cups full of urine get tossed on you. "Fans" will scream obscenities that would make a lumberjack blush in front of your grandmother. Cars with Nebraska plates get vandalized in the parking lot (some folks around here take SD plates with them and do a switcheroo in the parking lot to protect their vehicles). And hey, wasn't that a moment of pride when you had to stop a game and clear out an entire section of a-holes on national TV? Now those are FANS!

This "rivalry" thing is rediculous. You just can't pull a name out of a hat and declare "This is our rival" like McCartney did. Rivalries happen, they're not manufactured. And rivalries are based on respect as well. You need to go to a Nebraska - Oklahoma game and see what a rivalry actually is. You'll see a lot of flak going back and forth, but there is still respect for the other guy because that other guy has whipped you more than once. Buff fans think that a rivalry means you hate somebody and take every opportunity to be the biggest a-hole that you can to them. In your defense, I guess it's hard to learn about rivalries and winning with class when your program is a perennial also-ran.

Thanks for the Neb civics lesson. As far as in my defense, all my kids went to CSU so I don't give a flying shyt about CU or NU it's what happened to my kid when he was stationed there that pi$$es me off. He's a good kid and an outstanding HS wrestler and baseball player. Didn't even play football and he had to put up with that shyt

The real problem is when you get outside of the Denver Metro area and Boulder the rest of the state could care les about CU. the reason being we actually have PROFESSIONAL sports in this state.
The football team has won the Superbowl
The hockey team has won the Stanley cup
The baseball team has played in the World Series.

Compared to that, College football doesn't even get me excited enuf to check the scores.

One last thought; to me at least, a RIVALRY is something for over the hill washed up wanna be atheletes to hang their hats on when they are to old or too sorry to compete anymore.

Good luck with yours.

BTW do a poll around the big 12 the other teams don't consider NU a rival they just flat don't like you.

how about htat....a TRUE perspective of Huskers... take that self proclaimed "greatest fans" crap and sit on it Sandy....I was ridiculed for wearing purple as I left your stadium when Callahan ran up the score on us. no classy fans that day.

So you don't think Husker fans are highly regarded by visiting fans - you're in the minority. Maybe we can have a little "surf-the-web" contest; For every quote I can find from a visitor lauding the Husker fans, you give me a buck and I'll do the same for you and K. St. You interested?

Your first post it's "we" this and "we" that, and now you don't care about CU?

If your son was mistreated by Husker fans, I apologize for them. However, I doubt that your son wasn't stirring the crap a little because Nebraska fans generally get along very well with CSU fans - we have something in common with them.

You can keep your pro sports, we don't want 'em. College football is such a more passionate game. More heart and soul and fewer prima-donna money whores.

Gotta admit I love college football above all other sports, collegiate or professional. I'm a die hard Texas Aggie and have definitely had my sharing of "learning to lose". Rivalries are good but also need to be civil as well. We should have a pretty good record this year as we're playing Texas School, the Deaf and Shriners Crippled Childrens Team and the University of Tijuana before going into the big 12 games. We should go at leat 3-9.

TB it sounds like you have the same schedule maker as Neb. They usually start out the season with the North Dakota Deisal Mechanics, Followed by the Wyoming Farriers Skool, and finish the preseason with The little sisters of charity convent .

I don't call it stirring the shyt when my son IN UNIFORM knocks on a door and asks permission POLITELY to hunt Turkeys on a farmers place and is invited in, given a glass of iced tea and told he can hunt anywhere he wants on their place.

Then as the farmer walks him to his truck he sees the Colo plates and tells my boy he can get his sorry Colorado a$$ off the place and NEVER come back.

Now I tell ya that's some real classy behaviour from those NU "FANS".

For the record both my sons went to CSU after the oldest was in Omaha, and don't kid yourself we have nothing in common except a short stretch of border.

BTW I know all about rivalries we have a pretty intense one with the neighboring town. We played them in all sports until 1996 when we had a terrific bunch of sophmores on the football team that went up there and tore them up pretty good. They dropped us from their schedule for the first time in over 50 years until that bunch of boys graduated but not before playing for the State Championship.

Know what's funny they have the same school colors as the University of Nebraska.

One of the classiest captains to play any proffessional sport retired from the Colorado Avalanche yesterday-Joe Sakic quietly went out and played at the top of his game for twenty years on the same team far from being a 'prima donna money whore'. From listening to you guys carry on like little kids maybe it's time to change sports and watch some athletes with real class. I went through Nebraska years ago and got talking football with a Husker fan as he pumped my gas-it wsn't the most pleasant conversation I've ever had lol. Every team at any level-in any sport-has some a..holes who support them-luckily their rivals usually have an equal amount.

The farmer that ran your boy off probably went to a game in Boulder. Most of the stories I've heard of people that went to Boulder end with "never again.". We didn't get our dislike for Colorado because of all the times you've beaten us..... Figure it out. You reap what you sow.

Let's see..... seems to me that I remember little 'ol Chadron St. taking out perenial powerhouse Montana St the week after they beat CU - in Boulder! Let's see - the Bobcats beat CU by 9 and Chadron St. beat the Bobcats by 12. Does that mean that if Chadron St. played the Buffs, the spread would of been Chadron by 21?

FYI, the Buffs start out this next season with Toledo (3-9), CSU (5-7), and Wyoming (4-8). You're pointing fingers?

No actually I'm laughing my a$$ off. You are so ate up with this stupid Husker crap you actually think it matters to anyone outside of your myopic little world.

The fact that you can make a statement justifying what happened to my son with that moron shows what a true moron you are. There's no justification for that kind of behaviour not now not then.

You win, butthusker. I will admit publically that I would just give almost anything to be from Nebraska and have the only thing in my life that matters be a college football team.

So I will just let it go and you can keep hating a whole state because of the behavior of a bunch of drunka$$ college kids and front range idiots at a meaningless sports event. For the most part the University of Colorado and Boulder in general are so far removed from reality around here most people don't even know they exist, and I won't fight with you over it anymore.
