Well little concho got bit right below the eyes two days ago by a rattle snake. The snake was only about a foot long, but it sure made her swell up....well cause Concho is only about a foot long to!! I took her to the vet to stop the swelling and he give her a couple of shots and that was that. She still has some swelling, but not bad. She will be good as new in a couple more days! Hopefully she will be wiser to snakes. That makes 3 rattle snakes killed in my yard and my neighbors! I guess they are really moving.
 
A lot of times baby snake bites are worse than a full grown snake bite. Big ones have usually struck at something recently and don't have as much venom left as a small baby that's not had as many strikes.

Hope concho feels better soon.

my cat is just gettin over bein bit by a snake. Least that's what I assume it is, has all the classic snake bite signs.....Poor Wally's was right below his left eye, and his face and eye bulged. It abcessed and finally broke open day before yesterday and drained right below his eye along his cheek area. I'd given him benedryl several times to help with the swelling. I don't know why it is, but dogs and cats seem to do better if bitten on the head than somewhere else on the body.

It's because they have very few blood vessels in the head area....or least thats the vets thoughts. Makes sense.

The snake that got concho only had 3 rattles and a button, but yeah that is big enough for a Corgi!! Poor thing's face looked like a foot ball and she couldn't even close her mouth.
 
Poor baby!!!!! Hope she feels lots better real soon.

When I was a teenager, one of our cowdogs got bit about half way up the nose by a rattler, the fang marks were about 2 1/2" apart........his head swelled up like a watermelon, and he got a little sick, just wanted to spend his time lying in the shade. After about a week, the swelling went down, and he went back to work. The hair never grew back on the bite site, though. Otherwise, you couldn't tell he'd ever been bitten.
 
Ohhhhhhhhhhh! Poor Concho! Hope she pulls through ok! Gotta love those Corgis!!!! Corky here hasn't had a run in with a rattle snake, but only time will tell...depending on the year, we can get lots of rattlers around the house :mad:

Older snakes have learned how control venom release!
 
thats too bad about your dog getting bit
we have dogs get bit by rattlers here often and a friend of mine told me to give them a big dose of vitamin c sub q "about 20 cc to a 40# dog"
that has worked great for us and we don't have the vet bills anymore

I think your poor little Concho needs to come north for awhile and get NURSED back to normal....I PROMISE to get her back to you...eventually...of course, the full recovery time could be awhile!!

I think small dogs have A.D.D. I've said that so many times about Rocky. LOL We've thought of breedin her and Wrangler, when that time comes. Got several folks that are asking.....I swear if she has puppies she'll prolly leave em in the box, run off playin and forget she had em....she can't keep her mind on one thing for 2 seconds.

I have a heeler/bc cross that used to love to hunt down in the prairie dog town south of our house. Until she got hit by a snake who apparently had the same favorite past time. we gave her a little PN, let her swell up and deflate and she's been fine ever since.
But she doesn't hunt PD's anymore. :wink:
