This dog is way ahead of my skill level...she may even be marginally more civilized than I am except for her habit of public bathing. I bought an owner's manual when I got her but it was not nearly emphatic enough. It should have read on the cover: Warning! Don't try this at home! I was talking with a horse on Friday and she got jealous and must have gripped a heel in passing because before I knew it the horse jumped straight up and its foot landed square on mine. Thought it was broken, but it's just black & blue. Dang dog.

Glad to see you found a good dog and a friend...Oh the fun things they do when they're happy...If you watch her work with her instinct, you can learn to control her better with commands...make the two work together, her luv for the job,,,and your commands and timing...good luck! Thanks

Thanks, Jassy. Yes, I'm finding as she matures and her instinct becomes more refined, she's teaching me how to direct her. She has to as I've never been around working dogs.

She's not quite 3-years old and we only work the cattle together on her "good" days, not when she's wound up with crazy energy that makes her think she knows everything and I'm retarded (most days). I'm amazed that I can point and give her a keyword and she's off in that direction to push or gather. Many times she pushes when we need to gather, or vice versa, and many times she gets the cattle too riled, but she is an amazing creature.

We call those Pin cushion cactus.

Nice dog. Great looking barn. :D

Thanks, BMR. I'm from Vermont, not a lot of cactus there, and I don't know what anything in arid regions is called. :?

Oh, I like the looks of your dogs. But I'm a sucker for a blue/red heeler.
Just a word of warning: be very careful and DO NOT tolerate her heeling the horses. Causes lots of accidents (which you have already excperienced) and it's a terrible habit to let them get into.

Thats a great dog! The cactus looks like what we'd call a barrell cactus. The cottontail rabbits love them in severe winters. In the spring they bloom like crazy and sure brighten the desert!
