Now this really did happen yesterday.
Picked up an emergency call over my scanner. A lady I know was floating the Missouri River, and was on her hand held radio calling for help.
It turns out that her dog suddenly got very limp and ill on the trip. She had to climb out of the canyon to reach anybody.
Well the first person to hear her was a member of our counties road crew, who then in turn radioed the sheriff's dispatch.
The dispatcher on duty got all the info she could and went the extra mile, by getting someone to help get them off of the river miles before they thought they could land. Not a lot of places to get out where she was.
A landowner and another person got down there and drove her and her dog to the vet. They just made it.
The dog had been bitten by a rattle snake. He is still at the vet's and is stable for the moment.
I just called and talked to her tonight to find out how he was doing. She had no idea of what happened once we heard her call. She was rather surprised and thankful.
I think they would have done for anybodies dog.
