Country getting Drier!

A couple of days ago- we moved the cow herds around and put the bulls together, So today while checking some fence I thought I better check out the cows/bulls and see how they were doing......

I found some of the cows hanging around one of the springs... While we are about an inch behind on rain- the rains have been coming at the right time and the grass doesn't look bad- and while some waterholes are getting low, the springs are all still running and keeping a little water in some...



This is a young bull- (Lazy Bar B Trackrunner #17506127)...He is a combination of some good Cole Creek and Ohlde bloodlines while throwing in a double dose of Basin Max 104J a couple generations back... A combination I hope works to make him a good momma cow maker...



Here- he and an old bull Juan (Lazy Bar B Juanada Rito 06X #16741353) fell in love with the same girl friend!


And here is Juan telling him that in the bovine world -- Size does matter !

Rains and thunderstorms have been really spotty this year... Most of it split and went around us... We picked up about .4 at the pasture... South of us got a lot of rain and hail- and north along the Canadian line picked up about another inch... Up along the line has been getting every rain- friend of mine at Richland says their area picked up 12" in one months time- which is more than they usually average in a year... Pictures of their Wagon Train by Peerless showed them driving thru belly deep grass and water standing on the flats...
 
Nope when those places north and east of us were getting from 3 to 7 inches we got 4/10 of an inch. :?

Up by Big Beaver they caught a 1 inch shower but the hay land is drying up bad. Looks like it hasn't had any rain.
 
Nearest town to us (Hudsnon's Hope) got evacuated due to forest fire this afternoon. Fire is 45,000 acres and climbing fast. Hopefully it slows down soon. Mrs. Silver is packing photos and paperwork just in case, but I don't think we are in too much trouble yet. Sure could use some rain though.

Sure feel for you guys with the fires. :(

We're getting some of the smoke way down here.
 
We are getting some smoke here also, in the northern Ne panhandle, twice a week or so. Quite a ways for it to travel.
 
I underestimated how bad the hay fields were... A hay field that last year we had 84 round bales off from-- this year produced 16... :shock: The alfalfa being deep rooted came up good- but the grass got 6-8" high and headed out...

Today its so smoky down here that it actually burns your eyes...
