Took my team on the road this weekend-we outplayed a team pretty bad on Friday but their goalie stood on his head and they beat us. Being the class organization they are they sent out a couple 17 year olds to try my 15 year old rookies. It happened to be Ty and his travelling buddy-there were a couple pretty surprised third years after the boys finished spanking them. Ty's scrap was right at center ice in front of our bench the guy speared him in the throat and they got it on. He lost some hide off his knuckles but he welted that guy up pretty good-I don't think they'll try intimidating our rookies again. I'd rather have the kids square off and get ot out of their system than some of the stick work and knee on knee crap a guy sees. Then of course Ty and his buddy half wrecked the hotel room after the game trying to decide who was the toughest between the two of them. Darn kids act just like their Moms.

How are you likin' those new breath-and-you've-got-two rules that Hockey Canada came up with.
My younger guy's midget team played last night.
Probably got two whole shifts of five-on-five hockey in the game. The rest of the time he was either on PK. Or sittin' one of the four he got himself.
Gets a little tiresome watching the boys play the trap and the box all night long.
We went down to a tourament in Beiseker two weekends ago. Little worried because the team's been in the tank.
Blowing Minus 30 outside and a quonset shell arena. Good 'ol country hockey.
Ran at a Red Deer team pretty hard in the final and darned if we didn't win the thing. Who'd a thunk.
And instead of medals the commitee was paying money for the wins. Do you know how much pepperoni pizza 18 sixteen and seventeen year-olds can eat?

Neil what Tier is your team-I'm looking to take my kids out west for a couple exhibition games-we get a couple weeks off after next weekend. Were AA out here-had a couple good games against that Bantam AA team from Camrose that went undefeated last year. The new rules are ok if they call them consistant from game to game-as it is now it's ok to hook the big strong kids but look hard at a little diver and you've got two.

Yup, "consistant" is the key. Each ref seems to have his own thing. The zebra last night was an obstruction man. Called them all night.
The next one will be all about stick infractions. I guess they're learning as they go along too.
The frustrating part about it, even with all those power plays and supposed free-flowing hockey, the scores aren't much different than they were before. Either with the kids or the Oilers.
We're a Tier 4 in city terms. Then we've got two levels of Southside Athletic above that. So I think a AA team might be a tad strong for us.
It would be a waste of gas to come this way just to run it up. But it was a nice thought.
She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed is managing and they are looking for one more tourney before it's over. For a lot of the boys it's their last year of minor hockey. And if they don't catch on with a junior team, their last year of organized hockey period. Except for beer league.
All those early morning practices, cold vehicles and concession coffee and suddenly it's all over. Where does the time go?

I coached high level AAA hockey in all divisions, seen many tournies ..... here is a good bantam tourny in alberta...maybe full now but next year try it......Oh and book your rooms early...pain in the butt if the rooms are not close or are on seperate floors....

and this is the bc site for most tournies at all AAA AA B levels.

Thanx No. Colin played in that tourney the year he was up with Southside.
We could have gone in another Xmas tourney put on by the Confedration club but didn't get a lot of enthusiasm.
You usually have to pick up kids for Christmas week tourneys because a lot of families want to get away to the mountains skiing. We'll probably be heading for my sister's at Invermere.
Hockey Alberta puts up a pretty good list on it's website so I'm sure we'll find something later on in the season.

There was talk about us going to a 4 day one between Xmas and New Year's in Edmonton but not too interested- Alberta has quite a few more tiers than Saskatchewan-our better AA teams handle Alberta AAA teams most of the time. The league were in is a bit mismatched in regards to player recruitment -Prince Albert is allowed to put one AA team in with probably a 50,000 population to draw from and we have our town of 4500 plus a few Indian villages way up north but we usually do alright against them. They're strong this year must be packing alot of 17 year olds they shut us out 3-0 yesterday but we had a goal called back and a crossbar too. Trying to channel the talent of those Northern boys is quite a challenge-loads of skill but some have never played much organized hockey.
