Well we sorted off a few cows and some calves to haul to the salebarn today. Normally we'd do this in Late September/Early October, but with grass situations like they are we thought it was time to send a few down the road and get em off. Get the some of the calves offa some of the mama's even tho it's a lil early. Hated to do it, but sometimes ya gotta.

Sorry that your grass isn't holding out, Jersey Lilly. It seems to be a wide-spread problem, and it is sure the case up this way, also. Normally we have pot holes in many of our pastures that contain water year-around. Most of these are now dried up, for the first time in at least twenty years, so now we sure have to keep an eagle eye on the tanks at the windmills.

Thanks for posting the pictures. It is always interesting to see cowboying in different parts of the country. Looked like it was a warm summer day.

Best of luck at the salebarn. Here's to ya. :-)

Lilly,I think you made the right decision ,cattle seem to be in good flesh, some folks will wait to long and loose some flesh,if they gotta go they gotta go.
looks like you had plenty help and cowboy hats this time  .............good luck

Thanks for sharing your morning with us Jersey Lilly.

Now, I have a couple of questions.

What is hanging down at the top of the second picture?

Is Lil Lilly riding her barrell horse? If so, that's a great way
to keep his mind freshened up.

And why was the gray horse so hot?

Nosy, ain't I?

BTW, I love your braid. :)

Lilly...

Thanks for the pics. I enjoyed seeing your country and cattle. Sorry to hear you're having to sell. We are too, sold some cows who were on the list for a "career change," and weaned their calves. I don't mind weaning in August, have done so the second week several times, but am not crazy about weaning the third week of July.

Hang in there, we're hoping you and everyone who needs rain gets it!

Cheers---

TTB

FH..I'd say that horse is hot cause it's been over 95-100 degrees on a daily basis......in Texas and here in GA. It dont' take much to work up a sweat.

Seems our GA & TX weather patterns are pretty close to the same most time .

Just to give ya a vague idea of the heat and humidity we live with......put a pan of water in the oven.....heat it for a while about 400 degrees....open the oven and stick yer head it!!

Welcome to Georgia in July....and Texas too! :D :D :D

Wimmen-   I had to go back and look to find the braid- was too too busy looking at other things like the calves and tagger...Who notices a braid...

I did! Now we know where Lil Lilly gets her beautiful mop of blonde hair.

I'm jealous. Wish I had hair that long and thick. :(

Thanks ya'll for all the positive words....We will make it!!!

FH at the top of the second pic is a runner off a grape vine that's in the trees at the pens.

Even tho we started Early in the mornin tryin to beat the heat, at 7am it started out 80 degrees with 75% humidity. Horses here will just stand in the pasture and sweat when it's that high humidity. When you put em to work, they sweat even more.

Lil Lilly is ridin her old barrel horse. New one never (to our knowledge) has seen a cow. We'll take him out there for her to ride when there's nothin important goin on, and she can just ride thru them, or around them LOL
Poor ole Abby knows her job in the arena, and in the pasture as well. She's 24 years old.

LOL @ ya'll n my braid.....I either wear it braided or wrapped up in a knot on top of my head, can't stand to wear it down in the summer time. makes it feel 400 degrees hotter with it down.
