The flies have gotten horrible. Just in the last few weeks with all the rain and humidity I guess...they just about took over. Uhgggg So we penned them, sorted them, and sprayed the cows first.

Nice pictures, Jersey Lilly. You are definitely hard working people that accomplish a lot. That heat and humidity would kill me off. You are bringing your kids up right. They sure don't have time to run the streets and get into trouble. Thanks for posting.

What are you using for fly spray Lily?

Our flies have gotten horrible since the rains in the PM have started back up.

We use Co-Ral to spray with, it works quick in killin the flies......that was our main concern, now we will be puttin out the mineral with the fly control. We've never used the IGR before....but I don't think we've ever had flies this bad before. LOL We've never had rain like this year before either. So all that combined.....I'm thinkin that's why they were so bad this year. Normally we spray one time durin the summer, and it pretty much keeps em under control until cool weather sets in, then there ain't any flies. A gallon of it costs $35.00 and we only used about 1/2 of it on 120 head. so that's perdy cost affective fly control

Yesterday the high was about 95, with 87% humidity...which makes it feel like it's around 105 or so. We had 1/2 inch of rain the evenin before out there...if it hadn't done that it wouldn't have been near as bad. But we survived lol and the job's done.......except for retrievin the one bull they left in the bushes. And patchin some fence we found down where a big tree branch fell and it's on the ground. We're goin out in a lil bit to fix that....then off to go do somethin fun (I don't know what yet) for our anniversary today.

Happy Anniversary! Newlyweds still doing stuff together..lol working cows ! Now that's romantic for a good ole country couple...Looks like all went well today, that's always good. Do you have trouble with mosquitos too? Ours our huge this year..good crop of em too! Hope ya had a fun evening and were'n't to tuckerd out to enjoy it!

Mr Lilly took me Antique'n today......then out to eat. He jokingly said he could take me hog huntin for our anniversary. We came back home this evenin, went out to patch that fence that the tree was on, then rode around...then....shot a hog....gut shot and it rannnnn into a thicket. Left him there, it was a boar hog anyway...(YUCK) prolly bout 200 - 250 lb'r
Then off to the salebarn to pick up our check, then he took me out for ice cream :D Wasn't that sweet!

Skeeters eat me up...I live with a can of OFF in every vehicle. But they don't seem to bother the cows none.

Happy Anniversary, JL.

What did you sell at the salebarn?
And you do have a lot of flies. It will take about 2 weeks to tell if that IGR is working, so don't give up too soon.

We run our cows through and put Cylence on them individually when the fly load gets real bad. It is cheap and lasts for a month at least. It takes more than one method to control flies when they get real bad. Good for you for making your cattle comfortable. Not everyone can do that. Anything helps...but we will never get rid of all the flies.

I was in Wyoming last week and I couldn't believe the flies there. They just squatted on the car...it was YUCKY!! So you know what they did to the cattle. I just had never seen flies that bad before.

Great pictures Lilly, always nice to see everyone pitchin in and helpin get er done,
Strange to say ,but no flys around here this year, been a strange year for sure...............good luck & Happy Anniversary.
PS.......nice lookin heifer calf.

I'm in SE Tx also. What sale did you go to? I go to the sale in Raywood. Prices on calves were really good last Minday. I am assuming that is what you sold.

We just sold one first calfer and her calf, one that kept gettin out this spring. I don't like em when they figure out they can push the tin and go under the flood gates. So, loaded her and her calf both up and off to town they went. Along with a few other calves. Some of the ones born in Jan/Feb.

CCRanch..Welcome to the boards!!! :D
Sold em in Navasota. We've used that salebarn for years, and their prices seem to beat all the surroundin salebarns. They average 2000 head or more a week. And the Saturday sale sure is convenient for us. Huntsville is on Monday, and the other Salebarn in Navasota is on Thursday. Don't fit our schedule at all.
I had to look up to see where Raywood is......down by Liberty. We go down there quite frequently barrel racin.
