Cowboys and economics in Wyoming

It's a sad deal but there will be nothing anyone can do to stop it.Big Government is busy lineing their pocket's and will turn a blind eye to keep their pockets full.

I bet in my life time we will see where fresh water will have more value than fuel.Maybe not but it is becomeing a major problem in alot of area's.

Average 220 gallons of irrigation water per gallon of ethanol. There is no doubt there is a limit to the amount of fuel we can produce that way.

we irrigate out of Harlan resevoir, on the Republican. we are already in court battles with Nebraska over the water. but now, the towns of Junction City and Wichita are looking to get into the fight.
rumor is the towns will buy out our irrigation rights and let the water free flow down to Milford Resevoir and use the water for towns!

I would like to see the irrigation sold off, but the guys with $75000 pivots are not so easily convinced!

I could hear very little of this as I am having speaker problems. (no volume). The little I did hear sounded a lot like "Yes we need it, but not in my back yard mentality"! The proposed wind turbines in Montana were stopped because they didn't want to see it on their landscape. Besides, the turbines might kill some birds! California wants to import power but they don't want it in their backyard.
It sounds like this is BLM land. This guy doesn't own it but wants his own private park. Who doesn't? We all want to reduce our dependence on the middle east, but we don't want the sacrifices that come with it! 'Sure we need it, but put it some where else!' I believe it was the energy secretary who made the statement at one time, "Let the bastards freeze in the dark"!
Just offering a different point of view!

If those oil/ gas companies would look after some of those wells !!

I can't tell you how many times I've come across well heads with gas just spewing from the well head.....go to tell the guy @ the shack....he just shugs and says he'll tell " the chief".

2 wks later...same place....same situation. Such a waste it and AWFULLY dangerous.

Makes the whole place smell like rotten eggs for miles!!!

The bigger development problem in the Pinedale area is houses; you look up every creek and it a subdivision. Once gas developments done you have a little of the infrastructure left roads and compressor station and buried pipe lines. I think is thought was just to slow down the gas development to a more level development.
Drove thru that area couple times last summer it unbelievable the rigs everywhere. Even the desert of the Great divide basin between Rock Springs and Rawlins there lights every where at night.
Not ageist the oil and gas as some day it will be gone or slowed way down it's the housing developments that never go away.

Kola, I was not in any way making excuses for big oil or the way they run their business. I was addressing the 'not in my backyard mentality'. To reduce our dependence on foreign oil, we have to look at every means possible. Someones peace & tranquility is going to be disturbed! Some birds, animals, etc are going to be lost. Sacrifices have to be made! We can not have it both ways! We sit here and bench about everything but the only solutions offered are, whatever you do, do it somewhere else! Don't put it there, it will ruin my beautiful view! I just spent 3 mil$ for this place, I don't want to look at that!

I just read where a new housing development next to a field, wants to stop a guy from harvesting his crop as he is causing dust & ruining their air quality! This is not a walt disney world where all the animals die of old age in the lush grass & peaceful surroundings. Where the cowboy gets to ride the hills seeing nothing but sage brush & cattle, swinging his rope and singing songs! This is no longer the 1800's. Things change! Some are sad changes, but we cannot all stop our personal little dislikes and preserve our pet likes. Life doesn't work that way!

fedup....I know you weren't!

We've got those folks that move in here also.....ones that have seen one too many Disney movies! I know the type!!

I just hate to see waste is my point!

Back to the wind turbines, the reality is much of the ground in my area is going to be developed one way or another. Unfortunately housing developments have spread like cancer, depleting water resources and wildlife habitat.

I'd much rather have to look at wind turbines than houses. In regards to "spoiling the view", who provides most of the view? Do ranchers get compensated off of each real estate transaction where someone else has profited from the sale of a view those ranchlands provide?
