Cowhunter's Niece here!

Several weeks ago after my uncle (Chuck or Uncle Chuckie to me) died, I was reading some comments on the newspaper obituary guestbook. I was surprised to see how many guest comments came from the midwest and other states as well as the references to ranchers.net and "cowhunter." I did a little investigating and came across my uncle's postings here. I thought I would check out the site maybe see some short comments from him and a post here and there. Boy, was I shocked! Not by the stories he shared, because he was just as funny and animated online as in person, but by the vivid descriptions and his memories... and the feedback from friends he made here.

My family has pictures and videos of him but it was so wonderful to read his own thoughts and words - something we did not have. I have saved all his ranchers.net postings and will be sharing with my cousins (his kids). My aunt (cowhunter's wife) and I talked about this site, and she knew he was posting; however, sometimes he did not let her see his posts. Said he was "embarrassed" in a teasing way. :) Some of the stories he shared were not new to us but some were. He loved being a cowboy and loved his family. My sister described my uncle as "larger than life, quick-witted, generous, movie-star handsome, and stronger than a giant."

Thank you so much to all who posted and "talked" with him, either here, in person, or via phone. It is obvious that he appreciated the kind words, the encourgement, and the stage!!

Sorry to hear about cowhunter. I always looked forward to his stories. Glad he got his new saddle, sorry he didn't get to put more miles on it.
My sympathy to all his family.

Yes he is missed. I posted his pictures for him. I don't really know how that happened as I am not the most computer savvy guy but I sure know how to post a picture thanks to Cowhunter. :D
I really enjoyed seeing the pictures first and always wondered what the story was connected to them.
Thank You for searching us out and filling us in a bit about Chuck. :D

I am sure we all gained some strength from Cowhunter and his will to live and his love of family. :) :cowboy:

cowhunter's niece - what a welcome voice! I sure enjoyed his stories because he had the gift of letting people visualize what he was talking about.

His absence leaves a big hole here on Rancher's and reminds each of us that our days are indeed numbered.

Thank you for coming on board and speaking to us of cowhunter.

I'm glad that you found "Cowhunters" posts on here and discovered that for us being total strangers, we are an online family too. I do miss his wit and stories, and I'm happy that you are going to share with your family what we already knew...He was an honest and fun cowboy!

Aww that's so neat that someone in his family found us...and his posts. He shared so much with our lil ranchers.net family. Brought smiles to alot of us thru his stories, when a smile was all we needed for the day to be brighter.

And welcome to ranchers if ya wanna to stick around, your more than welcome here.

We really enjoyed cowhunter's stories, pictures, and comments. Hope he received something from us by sharing his stories. I will remember him as a real fighter. He did not let us know of the odds that were against him untill the last few posts. Glad to have known him, even if it was just through the computer.
Thanks for taking the time to post on here.

I am glad you found the place your Uncle shared his life through stories.
I know most on here enjoyed his way of storytelling even those who did not reply back to his posts.
I hope yall recieved some comfort from and a chance to relive the stories you found here.

Please feel welcome to stay and visit.

Glad you found Cowhunter's posts, He was a highlight of my mornings with his wit and stories. His style of writing made it possible for a northerner to hear the rich southern accent in his lines.

Hope you stick around and keep us updated on happenings in that corner of the world.

To 'cowhunter's family, I truly endorse what the others have written about him and his talent and bravery in his battle with cancer. I've met that enemy twice and was blessed to have curable ones so far, so his courage is a special inspiration to me.

THe thing about 'cowhunter' that was especially enjoyable to me, a 70 year old wife, mother, and grandmother of 'real' cowboys, was learning a bit more about cowboys in another part of the USA. I saw some ranches in FL years ago on tours during an International Brand Conference down there, and while it was beautiful and interesting, I prefer risks of blizzards and drougth in SD to alligators and other 'swamp creatures'!!!!

THinking on it, the scope of 'cowboying' across the map is a top attraction of ranchers.net. The more we can learn about how 'the other guy' does things, the more interesting life becomes. We could even learn something of value, maybe without even trying!

May you and all his family find comfort in the memories and faith he shared here. He was a blessing to us.

I can't add much to what has already been said. I didn't respond to many of Cowhunter's posts but I always read them. Like others have said, his style was unique and he expressed himself well. I admired his courage and positive attitude even though he knew the odds were stacked against him. Thanks to him and to your family for sharing his life with us.

To you and the family my deepest hopes that the pain of your loss will ease in time and you can cherish your fond memories, thank you for sharing.
