You need to have a limiter of some kind in there or they
would be apt to get enterotoxemia (over eating disease).
We had a friend/customer try that once. He lost quite a few
calves. Interesting, one vet said it was impaction. He talked
to me and I told him he would have noticed him being off-feed
for a few days. These calves were just dropping dead.
I told him I thought he had entertoxemia and if he would
bring the next one to Baker to the vet, I would pay for it.
So the next one that died, he brought to Baker. I was there
when the vet cut him open. Classic overeating disease.
Purple gut!!!!! Doc asked him what he used for vaccine and
what the fellow said was a cheap vaccine. Doc said, "the
only vaccines that work best for overeating is Vision 7
and (I think) Utrabac."
I would not try it, unless you can figure out a limiter of some
sort. (My humble opinion).
BTW, the customer paid, I didn't have to.
