hi yall hows everyone doing? did you get all your crops in? what did you plant? up here we planted corn and beans. the corn is up about 4 to 5 inches dad just said i got to go check it. the beans are up about 2 inches i would say talk to you all later bye
 
barley, oats in and poked through, millet and rye yet to seed. Conditions are fairly good with moisture except the ground is still cold.
 
Wheats in- oats in...Nothing coming up yet....Getting irrigation water on the hay fields right now....Hopefully get the cows moved off the spring pasture onto the summer pasture on Sunday when we finish branding...
 
Got our seed corn today. Our planting tractor has been in the repair shop for 2 month's I called this morning and it's done. Should have it all planted by next week. We silage everything and cow's are on it until grass which we hauled the last of them yesterday.
 
this reply is to per:sounds good for the stuff you have in. how cold does you ground get are weather has been weird it has been hot and cold and all over the place i hate it.

this reply is to Oldtimer:we get a little weat in up here but my family does not put in weat. oats i have seen around here i little but not much. yea you do not want the cows to get to skinny got to keep them fat are cows on not on pastrue yet still eatin hay but we will open the gates and let them go to pasture.

this reply is to denny:if you dont mind me asking what happened to you tractor?yea our cows are still on hay we will move them to the pasture here in a while.

Mn, the ground one week ago was about 7C, it is 10C today. It needs to be 10C to grow good. Our days are getting long so cold soil will be behind us soon. One passing doesn't help with warming soil like cultivation did.
 
wheat is up, oats is in, now we need a rain. was going to finish up with some millet, but i think i'm going to wait and give rye a try. don't know much about rye, but i have heard those who do plant it, really like it. we'll see.......
 
Rye is easy to grow and hard to kill and gets too tall if you don't graze it a bit in the spring. It also doesn't like frost in the flower and spring grazing helps set it back past the danger.
 
We'd plant stuff but then it would never rain again! :shock: :D :wink:
A lot of guys have in their irrigated oats and will no-till hay in July. Most of the dry farm country south of here planted winter wheat and it looks great thanks to the spring rain. :D
 
to per: the sun came up today about 5:42 and sunset is about 8:53 so the days are getting longer yea got to warm and wet ground get some mosisture on it.yea cultivation helps with that my dad used to cultivat did not do it this year.
 
to justin: yea you got to have rain to get your crops to grow i have never seen millet if you guys got any pictures of it sent them to me if you want never seen rye eather.
 
to leanin'H:is rey hard to grow? We got guys up here that no-till to but they put in beans and corn. we had a little rain today not much just a sprinkle.

I have seeded alot of millet in the past...normally we are pretty dry by mid summer and the millet seems to do pretty good. good grazing if nothing else. I think I have some pics of pairs grazing millet....if i can find a couple i'll post them

cows really seem to like the millet.....and i haven't killed any yet so I guess so it can't be to bad for them. the calves seem to do well on it in the fall to get a few more pounds on before we wean. what part of mn are you from?
 
The tractor has had some hydraulic trouble nothing that $1800 last fall and $2933 today did'nt fix. Should have bought a newer one but to late now.

i usually wean the first week in Oct., give or take a couple days. feed the calves for 30-45 days then sell them privately. the reason i asked where you are from is that I went to high school in SW MN, but thats been more than a few years ago
 
to denny:what kind of tractor you got? That mite be a lot of money but you need the hydraulics. We had a tractor that we had to take the whole front out if it and work on it.
