I thought I would share some pictures of when we cut the young bucking studs. I finally convinced my husband that the young studs when the ones breeding our kids little mare. So we had some of the neighbors over and got the deed done.

Tap even came over to help out. And we were sure glad he did.

That wasn't so bad right!? We dummied them out about two months later. Hopefully one of these days one of them will make it to the NFR. I'll keep you posted.
 
There's some pictures you don't see everyday!

I cut one quite a few years ago and we taped it for astuerity(sp). Anyways, we wanted the grandkids to be able to see how we did it in the "good ol' days". :wink:

Nowadays, it's awful easy to let the vet give them a shot and then do them. If I could get the knock out medicine, I wouldn't bother with the vet. :wink: :lol:

Is that Tap on the gray? Sure hope he don't get a sunstroke, wearin' that dinky little hat. :wink: :lol:

Do you mean "posterity"? :???: (1. all of a person't descendants) (2. all succeeding generations)
 
Don't they use rompin and ketamine-we've done it the old way and the new way both. I like to knock them out on some clean grass and when they wake up they're geldings with a freeze brand. I'd sure go help somebody else go at the old timey way though.
 
I see you got things to work littlehouseontheprairrie. Whew, that is quite a handle to type out. :wink: That was a fun evening, and other than myself, you had pretty good help too. :P :lol:

You could probably still try and turn the one picture, but I am about a quarter bubble off plumb anyhow, so maybe it is accurate. :???:

I'm not sure. I don't have a veteranery degree and they won't tell me. :wink: :lol:

I think they won't give me one, cuz I can't spell it right. :lol: :lol:
 
I was at Doc Ismay's when a semiload of bucking horses came in to the Sturgis stockyards-big old half draft Canadian horses. They had to be bled or something-well John grabbed a 60 foot rope and said get ready to grab an ear lol. You know they fit perfectly in that big hydraulic chute lol. We have a good head man for wrestling horse up here but he just got out of the slammer for shooting a guy-makes you wonder bout giving him orders lol.
 
Just wondering because some vets around here have been known to let some people have a bit of the stuff after coming out and helping on a calf pull when the cow decides to come out looking to eat some rancher el fresca when the deed is done. Me? I personally just run real fast and get their number so I can get the ultimate revenge later in the year.
 
You can get either rumpum or ace. But you have to sign a paper releasing the vet from any resposibility... AND not all vets will even do that.. We have used it on a great big huge red angus cow that her calf wouldn't nurse.. It was a piece of cake... Although the cow is gone now. :wink:
 
We can get both Rompum and Ace here, no problem.
Dixie (dog) got into a porcupine last week and we gave her some rompum
we had on hand. Put her out nicely and Mr. FH got all the quills very
easily. It was going to be impossible without putting her out. She
wasn't nasty, just too quick for us old folks. :wink: Really hard
to hang on to her and they were inside her mouth as well.
 
Tap - I don't know which picture you are talking about turning? I thought I turned them all. Yes my handle is long...it's a book I like :lol: !!!!



Yes the vet is a good way to go if you only have one to do. We cut/branded 4 studs and branded another 5 mares, plus we wormed them all. And the meds work if you have a pretty close idea on the weight. You can kill a horse pretty easily if you give a little to much.
But really it is the old way to do things...its not as costly...and it was funnier!
