Good Morning Ranchers.net,

It has been awhile since we posted some weather news in here. But there are a couple of items that are catching our eye here in the Long Range. First, cooler than normal summer? and the El-Nino?.

Cooler than normal summer is becoming a trending topic for the Northern Plains as we continue to see these late season frost events over the Plains, makes you wonder what are the chances that we will run into a short growing season. There is some pretty good confidence in that the overall summer will find itself running 1-2 degrees below normal over parts of the Dakota's. Rainfall will also be above average for the Eastern Dakota's along the I-29 corridor and eastward, just west of that we are and will continue to see drought like conditions develop.

El-Nino, so are we heading into another El-Nino winter, right now things are lining up that we could see El-Nino show itself by early fall and then that will set the stage for an active front end of winter with some snow shoveling duties over the Plains as snowfall will start early and heavy, before rounding out into a cooler 2nd half of the winter.

We will try to provide more weather data here in the posting section, but if you want more updates, make sure to stop by our site and enjoy our weather onsite, from blogs to weather forecast and even customized long range outlooks for your operations.

Good Afternoon,

Just a follow up from our earlier post this week, El-Nino questions. Yes, the Northern Plains does tend to have a warmer than normal front end of the winter, followed by a really harsh Jan-Feb with extreme temps, also because of that warmer weather in the front end, it favors those bigger snow events or ice event as well Thank you for the questions!!!!

We will try to post another weather update next week in here and try to keep posting more often, as well.

Have a nice day,
Meteorologist Joshua Kelly
