Nice pictures. Yes, it might not hurt to wear a hat. A few years ago at a family reunion, I sat in a lawn chair for thirty minutes without a hat. The top of my bald head got sunburned and it hurt for a few days. :( :-)

Glad to see your daughter is interested in horses. As Sir Winston Churchill said, "There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man."

I usually wear a ball cap, either one of those 30k equipment hats (Hat cost 30 grand but the baler was free    ) Or a Cubs hat or some other free hunting hat or whatever I ahve gotten, I go through them fast... Keep thinking about gettin a straw hat but can't get used to the feeling of one on my head.. Too, stiff... MAybe one of those Australian Oilskin hats would do the trick.

Good pics!

Get a hat. Please, the glare is killing me!

Get a GOOD straw hat. Palm leaf. Make sure it fits. Then you'll get used to it.

If it fits right, it shouldn't blow off in the wind, yet not cause a headache. :-)

I can see where a curly haired little girl is going to have you wound around her little finger for sometime

And I'll make it unanimous on the hat :P

Okay JB.. Tell me, what is a good Quality palm leaf Straw hat.. I'm being honest, I would like to get one for working around this place during the summer and my wife will be nicer to me if I do.. ARe straw hats fittable like felt ones are or are they what they are when you buy them?

IL!!!! SHE IS WAY TOOO CUTE. You are in for a whole heap O trouble little brother :)

Look out IL, you've just created a horse crazy girl! What a cutie! As to palm leaf straws, try some on in the store, and make sure it's comfortable. I don't like the cheap ones with the cloth hat bands, as they aren't very comfortable and the hat band won't likely stretch to fit your square head. Palm leaf hats can be shaped by getting them wet, so if you get it bent out of shape, simply reshape and away you go.

Already in a heap with her.. She does crack me up.. she has wanted to do this for about a year and I have been reluctant but finally gave in a few months back but just hadn't been able to get it schedualed.. Finally just did it.. She had a blast and I hope she stays crazy about horses and pony's for a long time.. They are going to put her on a POA next time that is about 1.2 hands shorter than the appy mare she was on.. Don't know why they didn't start her on the POA but whatever.. She'll probably have a horse before I do, lol.

Trying them on at stores is easier said than done and I woudln't know a cheap straw hat from a nice one.. They all look the same and most don't have any 7 5/8th sitting around and none have 7 5/8ths oval.. NEver been told I have a square head, learn something new everyday, lol.. Maybe I'll try the place again and look close for one that will fit.. I'm sure they would feel better if they actually fit my melon...

Sorry about the square head comment, but I do seem to recall that you are of Scandinavian decent?..... 7 and 5/8ths, you gotta be! I am a long oval, but around here no one has long ovals, but I've had a couple of palm straws that have adjusted nicely to my noggin. I know 7 1/4 and 7 1/2 are available but not sure on 7 5/8ths  Good luck shopping.

Wait until you pass thru this country. I got mine at Weather Hats in Belle Fourche. I think it cost about $45, but well worth it for the fit. I had to recrease it as I wasn't used to the flat brim. I like it better now and no one has given me a hard time about it.

You've got to keep trying them on until you find the right one. And yes, they are shapeable. They will be a little stiff right after they dry out, but that will soften quick.

I wish I had worn mine today. We went to the breaks and branded and there wasn't much of a breeze down in the bottom where we worked them.

You stop in, I've got an Indian pony just that girls size I'll let her ride. :)

Risking making Judithing laught, yes, I have a touch of swedish in me.. We shall see, there is one hat place I might check out that will fit the bill.. They don't have a lot but they have some and will fit stuff to you and al that jazz... No offense taken at the Square head comment..

Why is it when you have to wake up early you can' sleep? Grrr..

I can always sleep when I have to get up early..... Its just that it takes a long time to get to sleep, then I wake up every half hour wondering if it is time to get up, and then when it is time to get up, I'm sound asleep!

 Yes when I am feeling less peckish I will have my revenge

( No i didnt miss it  How could you? did you see the shear size of that thing !  )
