the old 99 F 350 layed down on me. it is a 4 door long box. and I have decided that I hate the long box..... no dealer wants to trade a dead horse, and suggested a salvage or parts dealer.

have any of you ever went this route? or the other option is to put in a used engine and trade it then ... but with a new engine, I would feel obligted to run it ....

In my experience the salvage yards aren't willing to pay anything near what you would expect, so the only route is to get it running. Maybe things are different there, for your sake I hope so.

We had a F350 long box also and myself I didn't care for the long box was like driving a truck. It was in immaculent condition and under 100,000 miles when traded off and it was when gas was on the rise and the dealer wasn't to excited to be getting it.

  I prefer a long bed and I am surprised dealers wouldn't want one. I had a shortbed and took it back to the dealer and told him I made a mistake and he traded me even for a longbed. Mine is set up for 20' gooseneck trailer. I pull skidsteer and a bale trailer with it. I just can't get much in a shortbed when I am not using trailer. Longbed works better for me.

I think it was the gas consumption and timing of when we traded it more then the long box.

Jiggsy, as much as your lovely bride deserves to have a new truck, put a new Motorcraft rebuild in it and drive it some more.

1. No dealer will give you squat for it
2. It doesn't owe you a dime
3. At this point in time I wouldn't want another monthly payment
4. Those young'uns will be needing wheels quicker than you think

A fresh engine, a wash and wax job, and, oh, yeah, fix that damn mirror, and you'll still be in style.....and you will have screwed over the insurance man, the county treasurer, and the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles, AND you'll have warranty on the motor! you've won all the way around! 8)

Gotta agree with loomixguy right now is a good time to keep what you have, and keep the payment down.I drive a old 90 F250 diesel, keep the oil changed, tires up,has a flatbed, extra cab for the family, not fancy but practicle for what i need ,and best of all no payments!!! :) 8) .Fresh engine is on my list also, just gonna keep er' going. Then if we run outta' fuel,i won't have some fancy truck sittin' in the driveway!Have a good one. :D

Put a motor in it and take the box off and put nice flatbed on it and you will fall in love the truck all over again and ITS YOURS! not the banks or ford credit!

Was looking through some classified ads today, they were practically giving old pickups away. Have watched some people sink alot of money fixing up old pickups, and have regretably done it myself a couple times....it's always one more thing needing fixed and it all runs into big bucks; Ball joints, differential, wheel bearings, hubs, transmission, transfer case, drive shafts, starter....but maybe your pickup has had an easier life. I know of someone that reports to have had good luck parting out a couple of vehicles on ebay.

Sorry, Jiggsy, my advice was meant to save you a ton of money so you COULD pay your LOOMIX bill!

Maybe you could repaint the 350 and get rid of that Skoal green paint......maybe a Husker red or a Wildcat purple??
