dead wagon

had to call out the dead wagon the other day, and I noticed from his message machine that there is a $50 charge to pick up a horse, but cattle and hogs are free..

any idea why the horses are treated different?

Hmmm...we just bury ours on the place.

No ' dead wagon' in these parts...never has been that I know of.

Ours is $20 per stop if you have 1 or 10 head its $20 horses same as calves.

We have two dead wagons.. One is a local who is pretty darn cheap, can't recall waht he charges but it is sometrhing and than their is a national one that coms through too and they are not so cheap... I don't know if they take horses or not, never had a dead one around here..

Only ones around here are the gov't ones. Don't think they charge anything though. When I used to work part-time through the winters at the feedlot, they'd come to clean up the dead-pile. But then the Hutterites started paying for deads, because they'd take them home, thaw them out and skin them. Then they'd haul the hides to the tannery in Edmonton and get a bit of cash to go blow on the slots at the casino. :lol:

We have actually looked into, very briefly mind you, putting up a composter on the farm to take care of deads.. Problem is I don't think we have the animal amounts.. We could probably take them in from the neigbor confinement operations but I just don't think that is something I want to pursue...

Pure,its been a couple years now but last time greg called the "dead wagon"out of Edmonton,it took a couple weeks to pick up and there was a charge...greg thought around $100.

The feedyard I used to help during AI season used to call a deadwagon to come get the deads and they would be paid a small fee for them now if they want them to come they pay a large fee to get them there......
