Christmas – what does it mean? It means Christ's birth. Christ is a title given to Jesus – Jesus is His name. BC and AD – what do they mean? BC means before Christ. AD (Anno Domini – Latin) means "in the year of our Lord." AD does not stand for "after death," as is commonly accepted because Jesus did not die the same year he came. The system of numbering years was not implemented until well after Jesus' birth and death. Years have been numbered to denote the birth of Jesus. Man did not recognize what a profound effect the life and death of Jesus would have on mankind until well after the event when it became an undeniable turning point. Some scholars believe Christ actually was born 4 to 6 years before 1 AD. No mater what exact year or even what label you put on this, the truth remains that the birth of Christ marks a turning point in the history of mankind. What is so different about this birth? All births are a man created in the image of God. Jesus' birth is unique (HIS ONLY begotten son) because it is the birth of God in the image of man (Philippians 2:6-8). Immanuel means "God with us" (God came to live with mankind). No mater what your personal religious beliefs are, the birth of Jesus Christ was, indeed, a turning point in world history. Kind of hard to argue that point isn't it. He is the turning point in my life. Have your self a good Sunday mornin' and a great rest of the week, oh, and lets celebrate; God is with us!
