Today was a rough day in our little household as the only other source of estrogen left for the big city of Helena and the start of her medical career!!! Lots of tears and plenty of smiles later......

getting our good-byes outta the way for dad and 11 year old brother!!

hugging on little brothers since she won't be home for awhile!!

heading for the freshmen dorms!!

making sure that big sis's bottom bunk "makes the grade"

slowly but surely getting things unloaded and put into place!!

got her little cubby-hole/study area all arranged and most of her clothes on hangers....time to pack up and head south and home!!!

Yes, I got pretty danged teary-eyed when it came time to leave her there...she was soooo excited, but also so very nervous!! Gonna be tough coming home at night and NOT having her there!!!

And here I am wishing college would start back up again-- as I can't get the girls out of my hair fast enough   I think I've gotton too used to them being gone-- bathrooms available when I want them- no wet towels and dirty clothes laying around-"MY" computer not being used when I want it- etc. etc.
But I think they said they didn't have to be back in Billings (MSU-E) til the 4th....

That old football field brings back memories as I've been over there a couple times watching my son scrimmage when he went to one of Petrinos football camps...
I may make a trip to Helena before shipping season-- as my 95 year old Aunt lives there and I should go visit-- she just had a slight heart attack- recovering good, but is kind of upset because the Doc says he doesn't want her living alone anymore  , so her son is going to move her in with him...

Demo Driver will do well-- Carrol is one of the nicest colleges in the state...(Pricey but nice  )....

She is a bit more organized than my first day at the dorm.. I think I ran in, dumped everything off and than took off again for a wedding I had to go.. Got bacvk the next day and don't think I unpacked all the way until classes started... She'll do just fine.... As my folks liked to say when we were two hours away that we were close enough but not to darn close   Of oucrse, those two hours were 45 miles but traffic around Chicago...Well, if you left at 2 am it was only 50 minutes, lol.

Sweet pictures that bring back memories. The tears for the end of an era, yes, but after less than a year of college you'll be really proud of the leap in growth and maturity you'll see in her when she has learned she can survive. At least that was our experience. Our condolences and congratulations to you parents on job well done. :D

My daughter left for college and never even stopped to say good bye she lives with her mom and thats a whole nother story. She is going to college in Chicago she thinks I should give her $40,000 a year for school to which I replied NO and she has'nt talked to me since that was in june.If your not forking over money she does'nt know you,her mother trained her well.

I did about the same-- except I headed over to see what was showing up at the girls dorm- and then to find where the party was....Never really got serious about unpacking or classes until my second quarter...Could be the reason I got a .57 GPA the first quarter

I sure remember the tears and smiles last yr when my kid headed off to college...I'm sure your boys will keep ya busy and Demo Driver will be calling home just to chat. This year was so totally different, since the kid never came home for the summer, we didn't have the "back to college" goodbyes...I knew school started Monday, and he finally called Wednesday to tell us about his classes...so I guess he made it ok...Don't worry, she'll be just fine!

Heck OT, I was already pretty much attatched to the gal who is now my wife so the thought of checking out the gals on the first day or two on campus just seemed wrong... I'm sure I missed Sandy more than I did my family   What did they call them.. Home town Honey or something like that...

I won't talk about my grades my first year... LEts just say there is a reaosn I didn't finish off at my first college, lol.

40k.. Must be going to one of those private U's like Loyola, DePaul or U of C... I remember my first bill at Northwestern.. Enough to loose oyour breath and that was 14 years ago.. From what I hear tutition thee is up 100% from when I attended.

that is one pretty young lady.....I would be running around with a gun telling everyonetha the first guy to try anything would spend Christmas break digging buckshot out of his arse!!

She's going to some high dollar school for interior decorating I think school is $24,000 she NEEDS $16,000 for rent and PARTY money

Heck I don't even make $40,000 a year.

Yep.. The kid I had the greatest respect for at NU was a kid from out near Pendleton Oregon.. He had been working since he was, I don't know, harvesting Peas and some other ag stuff to save up money for a corvette. He wanted a corvette when he graduated from high school.. Some how he decided to go gungho and applied to the Engeneriring school at NU and got in and paid his own way for 2 years instead of buying that car... Kid was the hardest worker I ever saw and eneded up going to Cal Tech for his Masters and last I heard had one heck of a job.. Smart kid but that work ethic and attitude were just wonderfull.. First person I told I was moving to Montana and he was the only one who got it.. BJ was a great friend... Wish we had been able to stay in touch...

Yeah, I don't think we are pulling in over 40k either.. Luckily the grandparents gave the kids some money when they ere born and it is slowly growing.. By the time they are 18 it should be enough to pay for a week of classes

We had an account set up for her since she was born but her mom let her start dipping into it she manage to blow $20,000 over the last 2 years she has no work ethic very pretty but very lazy.My step daughter has worked all through high school she bought her own house in January and graduated in May she has spent all summer going to college classes two girls so much different the differance in the two is their mothers.

I first married Beauty next time around I married Beauty and Brains.

I will be heading back to Helena on Monday to bring her a few things at home that she "forgot"...called her lastnight and she and her roommate were busy getting ready for the "welcome aboard" dance!! She sounded to danged excited that it was hard to be sad anymore!! Sure was weird this morning...waking up to a house with her not in it!! Riley and I just sort of wandered around for awhile since cowboyup was out irrigating and flint was with a friend!! Gonna take me awhile to get my bearings together!!

Denny---sorry to hear about your girl....what makes some kids so very, very different is still a mystery!! My 2 oldest are "PRIME" examples....my son is a "lost soul"....20 years old, no job, child on the ground, not married, parties when he should be paying his bills, wouldn't know the truth if it bit him in the a$$, etc., etc!!! Then there's Gussie....honor student, self-reliant, wants to do things her-way, on her own and with as little help as possible (loves to say "I can do this, mom....you and dad still have the 2 little boys to take care of!!"), honest and hard-working!! These 2 kids have the same genes/dna, were raised in the same house with the same rules/boundaries/privileges/punishments/expectations and yet they turned out total opposites!!! I just pray every night that my son will turn his life around and GROW UP!!!!

NE Oregon used to be a perfect area to develop work ethic....

It is such fun hearing kidsexcitedly talking about the start of school especially when they're away from home for the first time. At least you don't have to worry about home-sickness calls!

Ranchwife.... We have to very oppisite boys.......So you are not alone... Time will tell how our story turns out..........

you send that one to KSU and he will be just fine!......he been down for a visit yet??? I could take him to a ball game and show him what Aggieville is!

Remember, ranchwife, we give them ROOTS and we give them WINGS.
Gussie has her roots and now she is trying out her wings. You will be okay, she will be okay. She will still need you, never fear.

As for kids, the more you give them the less they appreciate it, has been my observation. Too bad that too many times they have been denied a feeling of achievement, because "what have they had to achieve"? It's all been given to them. Better that they have to EARN things, then they appreciate it.

OK, time to get off my soapbox. And I do know that you can have 10 kids, raise them all the same and they all will turn out different. I don't mean this post as pointing fingers to anyone on this site. It has just been my general observation of society in general.

FH-----I could not agree with you more!!! Gussie's roommate comes from "uppercrust" and her folks are paying her complete way for nursing school at Carroll....at about a cost of $36,000 a year and she is not even really sure she WANTS to be a nurse.....says "I went into nursing because there are soooo many jobs out there for nurses!!"  Oy Vay!!! She will have her eyes opened!!! Gussie has several job offers, but I told her to take one close to the school (since she does not have a vehicle and winters can be BRUTAL) and that will work around her school schedule!!! I went to take her a few more things (including her new eyeglasses that just came in today) and got to meet one of her new friends...nice young lady going into psychology!! Gussie seems to be adjusting really well and likes her instructors and classes!! Made for an easier ride home this time just knowing that she is doing so very well!! :D :D
