Last week I hit a bred sale and picked up some darn good second calvers for $1185. :D
Today I was at a different barn same town and these second calvers were good but I think no better then what I bought. $1550 to $1725 is where they traded.
The first barn sells cattle. as Barack would say"PERIOD"

The second barn just sells bred stock, horses, sheep and miscellaneous stock and equipment as well as farm sales and community consignment sales
They don't even have a scale.

The second barn does a good job of having the sales listed on their web site. They have names of the consignor, breed of cows, breeding date and service sires as well as they have representative pictures on of the herd.
The first barn might have a spot or two on the radio that they are having a bred cow sale.
oh well it worked out for so I'm not complaining just stating the facts . :D

Well with the difference in price from when you bought until now, you already got your profit from one calf crop before they even hit the ground!

I take it the 2nd barn was johnstone auction mart? They do have an impressive website,it's nice to see what cattle are going to be at that sale, before making the drive there.

Your right. :D
Scott does a good job promoting the sales.

They also print you a catalogue with every cow listed along with preg check results. They bring the cows into the ring 3 at a time, and believe it or not, the high bidder can actually pick which cows he wants. Where else does that happen???

If they sell any less than 3 i would start to think the guy is from Missouri or somewhere east of the Mississippi.

Yesterday at the bred cow sale, dispersal cows quiet 2nd calvers tans bred red angus sold for $1125,and if they would have been close to calving instead of in april they would all be in my yard today, instead of being on a truck today heading to get slaughtered.Mean while bred heifers bred for april were as high as $1500 and i didn't think they were anything great but everyone was fighting over them. The thing that pisses me off,how could that many people be that stupid,to not see what the real deal of the sale was? Those 2nd calvers were way to good of animals,to just be sent off for slaughter.
