Well, it happened. Pequi disappeared while visiting the neighbor's place and was nowhere to be found. He'd been spotted on the 17th and again on Monday the 18th but thereafter, nothing.

I looked for him everywhere, looked for buzzards, even made an hour's drive thinking he might have been picked up by a folks buying bales of bermuda from the neighbor. Still nothing.

Last Thursday I started placing the sign below in the markets, bakeries, etc. I figured if he was still in the area, either someone would come forward for the reward or someone would snitch as to where he was being hidden. He's famous in the pueblo and it would be impossible for someone to keep him for long without someone else taking note. A reward of 1,000 bs is about a month's pay for most of the folks in the pueblo.

Anyway, this past Tuesday we got the call, paid the ransom, and Pequi is now safe and sound. What trauma. :D

Not sure what language that sign is written in but I sure couldn't make any sense of it. Its a wonder that you got him back.
I'm glad you got him back WW.

Oh wow....So did he just wonder off?

Lil Feller better stay put where he's sposta be....glad ya got your lil buddy back.

No, he didn't wander off though he was hot on the heels of a bench in heat. On Sunday the 17th I drove down to the end of the road and found the female that was in heat along with about 20 males, all fighting. Pequi wasn't with them and I was worried a bigger dog had killed or injured him. However, on Monday, he showed up again at the neighbor's place, but still running with the bench in heat.

Someone traveling the road that intersects our ranches came across him and picked him up. They knew he was my dog, like I said, he's famous in the pueblo and I'm sure hauled him off to wait for an offer of a reward.

My fault for not controlling my hound. I'll be doing my best to not let it happen again. Honestly, I was heart broken. :?

By about Wednesday or Thursday after he went missing I was really worried he was dead or gravely injured. My employees assured me he wasn't, saying he's too smart to get himself killed by another dog. Apparently though he wasn't smart enough to avoid being picked up on the road between our ranches.

Yeah, he was glad to see me but seemed to be in shock a bit. He was well fed but I suspect kept in a cage of some sort for the week he was missing. For a dog who sleeps in the bed with me, I'm sure that was tough.

When I drove into town with him mounted on the rear view as he likes to do, people actually cheered when they saw I'd found him. All the kids in town know him by name and came running when they saw him.

It is amazing what a dog can mean to a man. He goes everywhere with me and is fearless.........which probably is not a very good thing. :?

Anyway, all's well that ends well.

Here's a pic I just took of him "decompressing". :D

good thing about a dog party is they tend to clean up all the spilled food..
