Driving down the Road

I thought a few picture of the neighborhood cows would be interesting instead of always my cows. Not sure where they were all hiding, in a 50 mile one way road trip I only saw a few herds.

This outfit has excellent cows.

These guys keep a functional group of cows.

PB outfit that has both Hereford and Angus. Not particularly a low cost operation.

Another set of good functional cows. Brother to the functional one's above.

I saw lots of tractors today. Not usually much action in March here but farmers tend to get antsy this time of year.

Native grass is a scarce commodity out here where our farm is. Another piece bites the dust so to speak.

Home to check my own.

Access to clean fresh water doesn't always deter them from that "tasty" stuff.

Too windy here to do anything but sleep today.

Your cows look really good Per. Really like that one in the water, very nice . We are super windy here as well, the darn power keeps going off because of it. Heard Lethbridge is having gusts of 100 km today, sure glad I don't live there anymore .. :???:

Looks like your surrounded by some nice outfits, liked those herfs alot.

I'd like to have that dry ground until about June first then you can have it until next spring.

Have you started calving in earnest now. We have had 5 so far today and a heifer is in progress, I think this one will be a pull as she is pretty big in the belly.

5 days til due date, I just can't wait to get started. :roll:

Not quite going full tilt yet gcreek. We had a pretty poor conception rate on the Hfs and they are slow starting. Wondering if I had some sort of bull fighting problem in the first few days. They were only bred for 25 days so they can't hold on too long.

BMR, Brent must have been talking fast and banging his gavel. I haven't yet read the bull sale thread yet so this is an assumption. I sat in his chair at a Board meeting that he was absent at the other day. :? Got to see life from his side of the table. :shock: I don't remember Hillbilly, must have been before my time.

Blkbuckaroo, I had to pick up an airseeder part being rebuilt at our version of Sparkies Machine Shop.

Hillsdown there are plenty of good cow outfits around here.

MsSage, nothing better to photograph than bovines.

You're right about the math. This 1/4 was owned by my Uncle and joins my place but there was no penciling the $850,000 he got for it. I do get to graze the coulee and the residue in the fall and the new owner is a friend so at least the neighborhood shouldn't go to pot. :wink: Hard to replace native grass though.
