It actually was pretty funny after you posted being droughty then getting
rain. That would be drought mold in my book.

BTW, OT, we got missed last night. Well, almost. We got tenth of
an inch of rain. We had received a bulletin at the newspaper yesterday
morning and they called it a 'slight risk' but to check the update at
11:30 am. We forgot that one, but checked at 2:30 and they called
it still 'slight risk' of hail, hard winds and heavy rain.

But then the clouds rolled in. It looked like we could really get hit.
Sure would have liked more rain out of it, but didn't need the hail
so guess we will take what we got.

Haven't heard what happened other places yet.

How about you OT? What happened up there?
 
Yes. Unless we get a hurricane, most cattle producers in Texas are going to be in terrible shape going into the winter. In anticipation, we have been buying large square bales of alfalfa hay from Nebraska to supplement the meager amount of local hay we have been able to accumulate. We are a purebred operation so it is more difficult to destock or we would just sell down until the weather pattern changes.

Well FH- You got about what we did- ended up with 15/100ths- the storm split and went to the west and east of us...Real spotty-Some areas got 2-3 inches- some are still bone dry- some areas west had hail...Looks like the Canucks north of me got a good share of the moisture again...

They had tornado warnings out for a while- haven't heard of any areas being hit, altho my daughter did get a call from a friend in Glendive that said they had trees blown down everywhere......

I don't know if you saw ranchers post on "Bull Sessions" but he said there was hail at Hathaway I think....
 
FH, :D :D :D It was really meant to be funny....
We got a quarter of an inch last night, bad lightening(lost a bale) and some pea size hail.. It's so dry there are no mud puddles and nothing runs.
 
Around here ponds and lakes are dryed up, wheats burning up, corns curling up, grass is gettin brown and short. Uncle, Dad and I put up my uncles alfalfa last week, 50 acres and we got 750 small square bales. stuff isnt looking good at the moment. Not quite sure what were going to do, but it looks like there are lot of people in the same boat, best of luck to everyone in getting some rain and soon. :D :D
 
We recieved .2 of an inch overnight which helps a little. Still looks to be a long summer. If we didn't get so much hot southern air it would help but we need the moisture to come from the South so we can't always win.

I found some pasture in NE S.D. So next week some cows are going to get a little ride to an area that looks like the Garden of Eden compared to this area. I know the grass there has a lot of H2O in it and the calves probably won't quite get the grow from it but it at least is green and halfway reasonable.



Our local area has way too many cattle in it if things don't change.
 
Our country has banned the local farrior from putting on steel horse shoes. There has just been to many grass fires from saddle horses over reaching and causing sparks!! :shock:


Well its dry, but it could be getting to that point!

My neighbor keeps doing the rain dance but I think he is doing it backwards!! Can anyone tell me does it start out with two rights and then a left, or two lefts and then a right? :D

LA: I don't know much about the rain dance but if you can promise results I am willing to learn. LOL. We have been getting some scattered showers the last 2 weeks but they have been extremely spotty. I hope you guys west of the river get some too.
 
It finally started to rain here. The question is if it was soon enough. With the cost of diesel and the lack of hay on the meadows seems hay production will be costly this year.
 
We managed to eack out .5 inches last night... Had about .1 each of the previous two days... everylittle bit helps, it was a actualy a bit greasy today while we worked calves... 90 degrees with 90% humidity too.. At least we are done working cattle.. Untill next week...
 
Still no rain here, either, even though ACS has sent his little brother on top of the house to blow it this way, nekkid! :shock:

Al and I went down to my mom's today, to do food box stuff, as we were coming home, we got sprinkled on. I'm hoping that it's the good storm ACS is sending us!!!!!!!

Sure is dry everywhere, got fires burning and more starting from dry lightening. So smokey you can hardly see anything anymore. :cry:

We had some spot showers around, just enough to keep us hanging on. This afternoon had a pretty general rain and I heard that the creek to the northwest was running. Thought I'd go check water gaps and found them still in place but the water was still raising.
Came back by the gate post to that pasture and thought the rain guage had 3.5 inches in it!!! That is what was left after the hail broke through the back side!
