March has come in like a lion! Its really windy for the 2nd straight day and the dust is thick in the air tonight. That dark line along my south fence is drifted tumbleweeds! When the front passes it will be time to fire up the weed-burner and break out a pitchfork. Wonder if i can talk my sweet wife into helping me light a fire..................................... to half a billion tumbleweeds!
The spring wind always picks up lots of dirt from the west desert and shares it with us. The mountain is hidden behind a wall of dust. Welcome to western Utah!
The last of my small bales and a fence full of round, pointy balls of weed! As hard as the wind is blowing i should just go out and throw em' into the air. They'd need Canadian passports in 2 hours! FYI- the little egg shaped objects are eggs! One crazy ol' hen musta used my haystack for a nest site! Hope she doesn't mind i moved her slightly aged offspring.
Even the water trough is storing T.W.s! Out west on the big military base they bale them where they stack up along the fences. Then they haul them to a landfill and bury them.
Thought i'd show ya some of what i've been up to lately. Since the snow cleared out and some idiot i know took an A.I. class, i got busy and built a crowding alley into my chute. I cut the pine poles last fall and sunk the ties deep and i think it'll turn a cow.
I tryed to use the natural slope of the ground to my advantage. As they turn the corner of my "tub" they are headed a little downhill and into the alley leading to the chute. Cept the alley to the chute isn't finished yet!
The alley end of the project has managed to capture more tumbleweeds than cows! Must be a design flaw!
Here is where memyselfandI construction company has got to. Things are slow at my day job so i built this yesterday. Hoping to finish the alley to the chute in the near future. I need to brand & tag some heifers and put pour on on some feeder steers.
Tonight i set a tie in the ground. Then daylight quit me so here i am glued to the computer! Do ya like my posthole digger?
A shot of my 150 cow. She came as a calf in a pair package with a broken hipped mother. My neighbor had the cow get hurt on the truck home from winter range. He didnt have time to haul her to the salebarn so he called this guy who enjoys doing stupid stuff and offered him the chance to watch her die! He said i could have em' for $150 and i said alright. The ol' sister limped around our wire lot dragging one foot and raised a nice calf. I kept her till fall and got a freezer full of burger and my 150 heifer turned into a nice small framed calf grower!
Another calf who was doin' a little posing for me!
Time for your close-up!
Hope ya'll have a great spring and a nice eveing! From England to Austrailia. From Israel to Texas. And from Utah to the wilds of B.C. Merry March!
