Durvet Ivermectin

In my circle, Dextomax is considered one of the best. Cydectin the worst.

There is no product that can guarantee lice kill unless you treat twice, once and then again in 2 weeks. "The way to get lice is to pour them twice." That is what the parasiteologists say. Do you ever wonder what happened to the lice guarantee on all these products?

I can tell you. The government made the manufacturers pull them because it was bogus. It was marketing, pure and simple.

We have a friend that worked for Ft. Dodge selling Cydectin. She lost
her job because of the government pulling the guarantee. That's how
I found out. She told me. It took their marketing tool away.

Interesting. Over the years of using Ivomec (can't remember how long I've been using it. Too old to remember that far back  ), I think I've maybe re-treated 10 animals total, and those were unthrifty critters who left that spring. I'm always amazed at regional differences and how it affects the efficacy of certain drugs.

I researched pricing on various internet sites for ivermectin type products a couple of weeks ago. They all had the same application rate and varied in price from $12 / Ltr. to $59 / ltr.
Generic to me means the same basic formulation without as much service or advertising. Service means a rep will come and hold your hand if you have a performance question. Not that the performance can be expected to be different. It also means the reps are out convincing the vets that they are giving value for the extra money they charge for a name brand product.
Examples of competition from generics are Aspirin and Roundup. Both products were so dominant in the market that it took a while for consumers to trust generics. Some still don't. But once you are comfortable using the generic you probably won't be comfortable paying a premium price for the original product if the are both side by side on the shelf. Some always "trust Aspirin".
As far as rotating products by going from Cydectin to Ivomec, I think that would be like going from Roundup to Touchdown. They are in the same family of chemicals.
My opinion ,open to debate.

Anymore most of these Vet Clinics are so tied up in product marketing and profitting off drug sales that you have to wonder about the info many of the vets give you- kind of lessens their credibility....

You can go to one vet and he'll tell you that product A that he sells is better than product X -- then drive 1/4 mile down the road to another clinic and they will tell you that product X (that they are the distributor for) is the best and product A is deficient.....

The old vet I've been using doesn't have a clinic with a whole drugstore floor plan- doesn't sell anything unless its something prescription he has to order in for you...Tells his customers to order thru Western Ranch as they can get it as cheap as he can (and much cheaper than the other Vet clinic)....So when he tells me something has problems- I know he's actually saw the problem and isn't just out to turn a buck......

Rod; We've had excellent results with Dectomax over the years. Had a real wreck with Cydectin when it was first introduced but our dealer and the company came through and provided excellent backup. We decided not to spend the money on the cowherd in the first year of BSE but definately had to spend the money by January........cows were lousy and needed treatment. Even at 5.00 a cow we felt the money spent was a good investment............sure saves a lot of wear and tear on the fences!
