We have had cattle around 15 years, a few have been embryo calves from recips in the last few years. This year we have 14 due out of recips all due feb 24. The calves we have had before have been any where from 1 week early to 2 weeks late. I was wondering if any of you folks have exprience with embryo calves? and any other helpful comments? We started calving Jan 30.

Our experience with embro calves was very postive. The key for your carriers in my opinion is you not only want to look at milk production but also attitude for the many trips the recips will make down the chute. The embryo calves we had came anywhere to a week early to late enough that they did a few dna tests to make sure if they were in fact embryo or bull bred.

I know in the experiences we had so much depended on the owner of the embryos. Our cows carried embryos for three different owners and two of them were great and did honest business the third was a little bit different to deal with. The other part of our experience was that two of the owners used the same vet that specialized in embryo transfer work and the third used someone who had went through a embryo transfer cource. Definatly the vet had the better conception rates. Would I be interested in having cows be recipts again, no doubt. It is more labor intensive but the premium of the calves helps a ton come fall. Plus it was a great learning experience.

The small number of embryo calves we had last year were born in a 5 day window from 275 to 280 day gestation. These were mostly out of heifers and they are a short gestation breed. We had a lot better success last summer with embryo conception and expect around 20 ET calves this time around.

I know a pearson who does a ton of et work, they have alot of calfs born backwards. when they get done with the et's and start with the bull breds it stops . why so many backwards do you think?
