Even a job well done sometimes needs to be done again

On Friday we gathered 280 pair, and sorted all red cows, red calves, any other off colors, and all selling cows out of the herd. We sorted out over a hundred, and put the cattle in two separate but adjoining pastures. We have no idea how it happened, but evidently a cow rubbed on a gate lever, and a loose keeper on a snap allowed the snap to come over the top wire of a gate. The gate fell to the ground, and the two bunches recongregated. This morning, Saddletramp, Peach Blossom and I re-sorted, and got everything back the way they were. This time, we trailed one bunch for over a mile, so we could get two fences between them.

The weather was beautiful this morning, with very little wind. Even though it was all a repeat from Friday, it was still enjoyable. The cattle and our horses worked quietly and well.

Good picture story, good hands, good horses, good company.

Is there anything better?

Soap, how do you identify the "selling cows"? When do you mark them and how do you? No reason other than curiosity.

I'm suprised someone hasn't asked you about the rings around Saddle Tramps horses eyes...

BTW, would you tell Saddle Tramp I sent him a PM a long time ago and he has never picked it up. That guy, someone could die before he'd notice... :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Very nice! Thanks for taking time to take pictures.Like always - great outfit you have there. You guys probably did not need any more experience sorting, but that is the way it went. Have a great day

Looking good Soapweedy crew. Nothing wrong with looking good while doing a job either. And doing the job like it ought to be done. On horseback. :D

Soapweed. did you ever give any thought to submiting some of your photos to Range Magazine. They are always looking for some nice photos such as yours. A cowboy and cowgirl pictorial would fit well in Range.

Just a thought.
