Just heard today they are building a home for a family just about 20 miles south of us...might drive over that way to see how they're coming along. I notice on the website, that they have designated parking areas for spectators/volunteers/workers...It's quite a production I've heard, putting up a house in 7 days, they work round the clock....friend of mine drove by after dark last night and said you could see the lights glowing from the highway -- two miles away!

Sorry Jinglebob...I usually don't frequent here on the weekends much...the location is 1 mile east off I-29 Exit #150 (North of Sioux Falls), then 2 miles south, and 1/2 mile back east. You can apparently see it from the interstate, but especially at night when it's lit up like a Christmas Tree!!!

A friend of mine went to see it yesterday -- pretty impressive she said, they took you up to the yard in a bus and let you look around (in designated areas).

The family is expected to return Wednesday and then they "move that bus"...guess the little girl has some kind of heart problem, hole in it -- they've done I think 4 operations so far and she's got quite a few left to go before they think they can repair it. Quite the deal...

Thanks for the reply.

Long ways from me.

We had a neighbor girl who had holes in the heart 30 years ago. They took here to the Mayo Clinic and she's an older lady now with children. Hope it works out alright for this young girl. :)

I hope it works out too. From what I heard, they are taking her to Omaha for her surgeries...hopefully with this new house, it'll help her -- the old one was filled with mold in the basement I guess.

It's close to Toronto, SD . When we go up to harvest I'll have to take a look at the finished product. I believe it is only around 7 miles West of some ground we rent.

It is just outside of Toronto, West, toward the interstate, so if you want to look when you harvest, it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Just heard on the news tonite, that they had the unveiling of the house today. They said about 3000 folks were there. I think it's suppose to air on t.v. October 29th...I like that show..so I'll have to make sure I watch it..

Hubby and I were talkin last night about that house. He'd heard from an engineer that was down there working on the site that when they build these houses, there's certain stipulations.

First, they can't show anyone the house until after the show airs, the program sets up camera around to make sure they don't break that.

Second, they can't "remodel" (who would want to remodel your "dream" house anyway :? ) it for a period of 7 or 10 years (hubby couldn't remember the time frame).

Third, the show pays for the real estate taxes for that same period, 7 or 10 years, then the family has to pay it.

This house supposedly sits on 25 acres and it's estimated worth is $500,000.00. The real estate taxes are estimated to be $7,000 per year now that the house is built, and that's in today's figures....

Seems to me if the family had a hard time just making it before because of medical bills, how on earth are they going to afford the tax bill when it comes due???? I think it's a worthy cause, but might be a bit of a burden on the "lucky" family?

Anyhooo, that's the way the story goes -- and I'm stickin to it...lol.
