211 replacement heifer calves were weaned a week ago today (Thursday). Something spooked them during Saturday night, and they tore up fence 'til heck wouldn't have it. With the prospect of colder weather on the way and the ground soon to freeze up, my family crew came to the rescue and fenced handily the past couple of days. I am very grateful and thankful for their hard efforts at this Thanksgiving time of year.

Soapweed, It's cool that your family helped the way they did. Went to my in-laws for dinner today about 50 miles SE of here and saw a combine or two going hard at it, so you weren't the only one working hard today.

Good get-together. I'm just wondering, who cooked Peach's Thanksgiving dinner?    :P

We are having the bonafide turkey with all the trimmings this Saturday. This is the day that seemed to work better for some of the family. The weather cooperated nicelly the past couple days for our fencing project, and working together was actually quite enjoyable. :-)

Had the same thing happen several years ago only in December with -20 weather on the way. Had family help and got it done before it got really cold.

Have an enjoyable Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday for we have much to be thankful for each day. :D :D

Sure enjoy your picture stories Soapweed.

You would get a few extra warms building fence like that up here on this date.

Cut wood, build several fires in a row, keep scraping thawed rocks out of holes, put coals back in holes, pile on more wood, cut more wood, I guess you get it.

I built a set of corrals in this fashion on a ranch we leased back in the early 80's. Had a few hours a day to spare after feeding so would put in 4 posts per afternoon. The guy that is leasing the ranch now said they are still in good shape.

Thanks for sharing your photos Soapweed, I always enjoy 'em!.....and I'm sure you'll remember this Saturday to thank the Good Lord for your wonderful family. Enjoy the Turkey. :)

Thanks for sharing Soapweed. Great pics of a great looking family. Nice to see you all pulling together to 'git 'er done'.
Do you allways have to hand dig your post holes in that country?

Hmmm.... some young guy doing the work, some pretty ladies with killer smiles and one old dude leaning on a shovel - pretending to hold a fence post.

I wonder who really did do all the work?

You have no idea how much I enjoyed those pics.

Best to you - hope to have some turkey myself in a couple of weeks.

I noticed that too..all the ladies doing the job...(if ya want it done right the first time..lol) Kosmos' kid put in his time too...but a photo of you just holding a fencepost???? lol Great photo's and what a great family...We are thankful that we have you on Ranchers...!

I appreciate you are trying to bond with the family in a meaningful way and all that. Everyone looked like they were having fun as well. I was just wondering with all the unique and wonderful inventions we have observed why you were not using some automated post installing unit that your welder/inventor son created for your pleasure?
