Does anybody have any price quotes on feed pellets (appox. 12% protien)? Looks as if my oats will go for milling and I need something to add to my corn silage for a backgrounding ration. Looking for anything close say maybe North Dakota Manitoba or Saskatchewan. Freight costs seam to be a big factor these days.
 
I found some but it is too far for you but I thought you might like the info

Sunflower 3/16 pellets, 27% protein, 10% fat. 130.00 bulk semi load lots
I found them over in Eastern Colo.
 
Sunflowers work great in feed rations but the freight from Eastern Colo.would likely kill me :? Thanks fro reply.
 
Cowzilla.....pellets are nice but they probably won't compare pricewise against oats (theres lots that aren't making milling) or barley this year. Some guys say they won't even bother to roll their oats...just feed them whole......works when grain is cheap! Like you said freight is going to be the deciding factor this year!
 
Cowsence what will Oats be worth that are not milling. There is likely some in your area that would make good feed just don't have the color;maybe a little light. Feed specialist told me grinding Oats only gains you about 3% on conversion so putting them in a silage mix on the whole makes more ecconomic sense :?
 
I'm in the same neck of the woods as cowsense. We sold our oats into the feed market for $1.65 a bushel.
 
Shelly that price you mentioned works out to about 106.00 @ tonne. I was quoted a price of 105.00@tonne for pellets FOB Brandon. Do you know of any prices ( pellets ) in your area :)
 
Master feeds in regina had a price of $76 a tonne FOB Regina on 20 tonne or more lots. The price went up if you wanted something in the pellets like Rumensen, Decox Ect.
 
To be honest I haven't priced pellets at all this year.....we're sitting on quite a bit of feed barley and the only way to increase its value is to feed it. Pellets are nice (we fed a lot thru the drought years)but you really have to shop around as some companies tend to cut corners by pelleting as much junk as possible in the mix!
 
How far east of me are you? If not too far, there's a guy at Lakeland, (who's name escapes me right now), who was selling pellets at a real good price last winter. Less than 100 a tonne, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure how much he is charging now though. Central Grain in Winnipeg is another good place to check. They had good prices last winter too. I think you have to take full loads, and arrange trucking from Winnipeg yourself.

All pellets are not created equal. We got some years ago from Dauphin and couldn't keep up with the mineral they were eating! Something in those pellets was out of whack, but they insisted the minerals were balanced. Switched to Feedrite, and they are much more reasonable at the mineral tub. We're not sure what we're going to do this fall yet.

Kato :lol: I'm about 40 mins east of you ( Limo Country !) The guys at lakeland are the Gardiner boys. Ithink they also sell for Feedrite. Do you know who randy single sells for in Saskatchewan? I think there would be some feed grain supplys out west that maybe a little tough but grain companys whon"t touch. As long as it will keep it will still work in a silage mix. Freight costs are the big factor, feedrite wants 20$ @ tonne from Brandon to my place.
 
I bought cotton seed yesterday FOB Carrville Gin for $100 a ton. 28% protein. I had to haul them 1.5 miles home.
The price of cotton seed is down from last year. It was about $125.

Bama, be careful feeding those whole Cottonseed to young/developing bulls. I have heard some horror stories concerning infertility when they are more than 5% of the total ration.
 
I am feeding 7 pounds a head a day to those boys. They tested good at Auburn the other day. I will post a link on that below.

Cowzilla, now you've really got me curious! 40 minutes east? Limo country?

I'm not sure who Randy Single is working for now, but we've done a lot of business with him in the past. I'll ask around.
