I went out and worked with my favorite filly this afternoon. I call her "Sweety" and boy is she. Plumb willing to do anything you ask. Saddled her up and really had a hard time not getting on her, but seeing as she is just a long yearling and not real tall yet, I decided to wait and let someone who is smaller (and a better hand!) ride her for the first time. Maybe Jr will do it for me.

She looked so good in my saddle, I decided to take a picture and show her off. She's built like a tank and the only fault I can see is she is just a wee bit small and got one white hind foot. But I think I can live with that.

I also worked with my draft filly. Once you get your hands on her she's pretty nice. I don't think she's going to be too much trouble to harness and drive.

Beautiful day here. About 50 or 55 and hardly a breeze.

I also included a picture of the nose of another filly that has a permanent twist in it, like she just smelled something bad. I've never seen anything like this before. I need to catch her and see if her mouth is messed up. I had never noticed it on this filly before and I ain't real sure what caused it or hoiw long she's been this way. Anyone ever seen anything like it before and got any advice?

This is the filly that NR liked. She's still waiting here for you NR. When you gonn'a come and pick her up?

She looks so cute in her big grown up girl saddle :) They always look so little :) She is definately a nice one :)

I'm still debating on whether or not to start Zippy this spring. He still looks so wee. He is a March Baby so I might just leave him alone until summer. Not too sure yet. I don't need to worry about manners with this kid that's for sure, the mares have really taught him how to respect! Anyhow there is no rush on him, he'll be here a while. His sire was recently gelded. So he is only one of two colts out of him...........
 
Pretty little filly in a nice new Saddle... Wish we had some of your warmth, I ahve to go work on 280 Horses in the middle of a field... Sure, it is a tractor but still, I am not changing out that resevoir without it being at least 40 darn it...(Been sick, really don't fell like freezing my arse off in the middle of a field working on a tracor)..

And I think the white foot gives her character.. And JB, the smaller they are the eaasier to climb onto and the shorter distance to fall off :wink:
 
Man jinglebob that is one spectacular looking filly I've got a soft spot for bay horses every good horse I have right now is a bay with a star. it looks like i did it on purpose but It just happened. I put no stock on color when it comes to ability if they work they work if they don't they're gone

I think she's pretty nice.

As for color, bay and dun is my favorite, but I've rode good ones in all colors.

Same with breeding. There are good ones and bad ones, all bred the same. A good one is a good one, no matter the color or breeding.

But with bloodlines, you can get a little better handle on tendencies, seems like.

Ever notice how many sons and daughters of world winners, don't win anything? :lol:

An old horse trader used to say, "I've had lots'a of pretty horses. Most of them wasn't worth a damn, but they were sure pretty." :wink:
 
That nose is odd on that one filly JB.. Does have the "Yuck, what is that smell" look to her...

There is one horse I ride that is so darn short that my ankles can almost click together underneather her. well, not quite but it sure feels that way... Old appy mare that should retire but whatever, she sure is easy get onto.. I am not a big guy or a little guy, just about 6 foot tall but I would probably rather have a 15 or so hand horse than the 16.2 that is sitting out in our pasture right now and who thinks she is a sheep.

Hey Jinglebob, there is something about you north country boys I can't figure out . If you are anything like me you take extreme pride in your Kack ( for those of you that is saddle in cowhunter terms aka: hull, wood, office ) and probably spent Several months wages on it so for 2500-5500 bucks they won't sell you boys a saddle with a front end on it . I mean for that much money it is a shame you have to put a hundred dollar pair of rolls on it in case one gets pitchy. just ribbin boss don't take no offense

Didn't cost me that amount. You see, I built it myself. Raised the filly myself. Oh and I made the buckin' rolls too. I put them on a slickfork saddle, for the same reason so many people wear boots. I may not need them, but when I do, it's a little late to go get some.

I rode swell forks for years. Found out that them buckin' rolls don't pound on you near as bad as them swells do. And the saddles fit closer to the withers, so you get less pull and pinch when you rope something.

'Course, you probably never have to worry about the pinch, seein' as how you probably ride a 4 wheeler to work and doctor cattle.

Don't get mad, just ribbin', son. :wink:
 
Nice bay filly, JB.

And yes, I saw a horse with a nose like that just recently in fact.
We looked in his mouth and his teeth do not match.
Bill Hackett from Gillette was here working on horses and
one was brought in with a crooked nose. I think they
are born that way, but if you check this one out and there
are some broken teeth, perhaps it was a injury of some
sort.
 
Well, now I have a pm sent to you JB.. Dad called right after I typed that.. Had to talk to me about the goose hunting he did this past week out near Omaha and how we should go out there in the spring for snows... Probably will do it but I know the only reason he is asking me is because I know how to butcher the darn things bette than he does.
 
JB how tall is she? Trying to get your corral into perspective :)


Can you post a couple pics of that sorrel colt of yours? I'd like to see how he's shaping up :)

I suppose she's about 12 1/2 or maybe 13 hands. The corral fence behind her is 6 foot tall or so.

You mean my chesnut colt that used to be a sorrel? :lol:

I'll see what I can do in the next week or two. He's pretty fat and sassy. Getting long hair. He thinks he's pretty tuff. I've got him and 3 others running with my 2 year old stud and he's kind of picking on them and keeping them in shape.

When I was working the colts the other day, the stud was squealing and talking trash across the fence to the other horses. I have several who were studs 'till they were 3 to 5 years old, so I let them in with him one at a time. He decided he wasn't near as tuff as he thought he was, when he had a corral fence to hide behind. Kind of like teenage boys and punks mouthing off, until they find they are in the same pen with the big boys. Then if they are wise, they shut up. :lol:
 
Get me a saddle warmed up and I'll be there about late July or Aug....as per my reg Western schedule!!!
