Here are some pics from our fire on Tuesday. I'm glad TTB and I went to check it as some hot spots had flared up in the middle.

If we get rain, it'll be nice and green! We hope you don't have to play with fire like we did!

Have a good one

Wow! If a good 2-3 day rain set in that grass would explode!

Whose bull was that? He is pretty dumb ain't he. Course their ain't no EPD for intelligence yet.

Was this fire on your place?

Lazy ace, I happened to have a pm from TTB about the fire. Sorry for your loss. I watched the news video about it and couldn't believe this had happened. You better give Bruce some crap about his bull standing on the burnt ground.

That looks/is terrible!!

I'm so sorry, but glad no livestock were lost.

Our daughters country between Hulette and Moorcroft is
burning up now. She said 4500 acres had burnt by this morning.
The wind keeps shifting, making it very hard to fight it.

Good luck to everyone during this very hot and dry time.

That bull's not dumb. He's just checkin to see that ya put out the fire correctly :)

Mike that is probably an LT bull belonging to a Maher who is our neighbor. The fire started by lightning was on his ground and spread to ours. We probably lost about 800 to 1000 acres of grass that was saved for fall grazing.

Fire is an amazing thing after dealing with it several times it still gets respect from me. It is very amazing how little it takes to do so much damage.

FH I hope your daughter is safe and the fires contained.

Feeder thanks for your thoughts. Bruce is definately smarter than the bull!

One thing about ranching, grass will turn green again, cattle will gain weight and life will become normal sooner or later.

cowboyup was baling large squares the other day when he called and hollered that he needed his truck..."NOW!!"....said that lightning had started a fire just a mile or so south of us...looked like it was on our summer pasture and the wind was whipping it hard!! When we got to the fire, about a dozen neighbors/ranchers were standing on the side of the road, watching the fire consume dried grass...the cause was a downed power line because of the horrific winds we had blow!! Well, we had passed the power guy as we headed out there and knew that the power to the line was off.....jesse jumped outta the truck with just his shovel in his hand and went to work...when the others saw that "the coast was clear", they too grabbed shovels and boots to combat the blaze!! Together, these hardy folk had the blaze out as the local fire department pulled up!! Cowboyup came home smelling like smoke and covered in the soot!! Scary, now, when I think about him standing in the flames!! But, when you are looking at losing what you hold dear and what puts the food on your table, you have a tendancy to just jump on in!!
I am glad you did not lose life, limb or livestock, Ace!!!! Hope mother nature brings all of you some much needed moisture!! Prayers to all!!

That`s plumb spooky Lazy Ace. Saw the interview couple of nights back of your family on TV. Seems like we`re carrying fire fighting equipment on everypiece of equipment. With the opening of CRP and predictions of 110 degrees today it`ll be really scarey.

Check this link for today's heat advisory and temps.
We are only supposed to be a paltry 107-8 degrees here today.

I sure admire your out look on life lazy ace. Hope ya'll get some rain.

Thats got to be tough, glad you got it out.We don't run into fires like that here most everything has a road around it and if it does'nt it may burn a bit but we have alot of fire departments close by so when one breaks out they are right on it.Last big fire we had here was over 20 years ago it was in the spring and got up in the pine trees was dry and windy that burned 3 or 4000 acres in an afternoon.Any more if there is a grass fire they just contain it light back fires along the roads and let it burn out but in your country I dont think that would work as well.

The fires we usually get around here are of the small kind although occasionally a bin dryer cashes on fire and it is awful hard to put out 100,000 bushels of corn contained in a steel oven. The field fires we get around here generllly are controlled with people dragging discs behind big tractors and just turning the ground over as most fires are in crop fields when the ditch burns escape in the spring... Last year we did have lots of grass fires closer to the quad cities but I would say less than 2000 total acres burned for the summer... Our big fears around here rest on the peat ground catching fire.. That is a pain in the butt, they had a dry swamp go up last year near here... That stinker burned for days..

Sorry for your loss you two, those grass fires can go so fast. At least you don't have trees that can crown out and run forever on you! When I went down to that fire yesterday morning, most of the trees didn't get touched as the wind was so fast the grass went poof so fast the trees didn't catch, otherwise it would be worse than it is. TTB, if the rest of the world had your positive outlook on life, it would be a much better place to live. No wonder LA likes you

May the clouds smile on you and rain, rain, rain and get that green grass growing for fall!!!! :D Isn't that what ranchers do? Jump in and git 'er done, and not cry over what's happened because there's nothing you cando about it, and yup, lazy ace (TTB) it gets better, we've had enough fires since we've been here, the new grass growth in unbelievable. :!:

That's exactly what sw would do, too. You can't afford to wait there and do nothing... lucky thing the power was off!!!! Today we are preparing for fire...predicting thunderstorms with very little rain...
