We had a red flag warning all day. Now a lot of Wyoming is on fire and there have been orders to evacuate in certain areas. Mr FH flip phone keeps going off with Emergency Alerts and we have no idea how to turn it off. I even googled it, no luck. I guess we will have to shut it completely off. I have a smart phone and I'm not getting the alerts.

Please pray for Wyoming.

@Faster horses Was just looking at updates on some of the fires in Wyoming yesterday, none of the info I found was very current..

Todays information shows a lot of expansion.

Hope you are safe.

With all these fires around the west you already can't find grass seed. Barb wire is going to be in very short supply too. Our fire they figure destroyed 1,000 miles of fence. Four strand fence takes 16 rolls per mile. So 16,000 rolls of wire just for our fire along.

We are leaving soon to take hay that we still have on hand.

WYO Governor Gordon finally declared it a Natural Disaster.
Our friend who lives in the Flat Rock fire area has lost his whole ranch
but they have saved the house. He went to check on a 90 year old neighbor
who lives alone. When he got there, her house was on fire, he went into that
burning building and brought her out on his back.

He is an outfitter and guides hunters on his ranch. That income won't be there,
as wildlife has burned. They say the rabbits and coyotes that are burning run
into the grass and ignite more grass.

These fires have covered over 250,000 acres last I heard.
It now has crossed into Montana.

The good thing is that no one has died.

People are stepping up to help; and now with it declared a Disaster, big planes and machinery will be coming in. I'm not sure if the National Guard will be called in.

This is the most devastating fire(s) we have ever seen in Wyoming. There is so much rough country that a vehicle can't even travel through to get to work on the fire line.

Yes, it has expanded. I'll see if I can find you a good website with information.

Try this, puzzled.

From Campbell County Fire Department: (yesterday) FB page:
RESS RELEASE
Both Large Fires Have Grown Significantly
Multiple factors are contributing to fire growth.
GILLETTE — The Campbell County Fire Department continues suppression efforts on both of the large fires currently burning. Weather, dry vegetation, and limited resources are contributing factors. We are experiencing very active fire behavior today. Some structures are threatened by each fire. No injuries have been reported. Additional resources have been requested to assist with both fires.
Constitution Fire (Near Collins Rd./N. Hwy. 59) – The fire is estimated to be approximately 15,000 acres and expanding to the north - northwest. It is 0% contained at this time. Structures in the area are being assessed with some threatened. Air support has been present this afternoon to help evaluate and map the fire. N. Hwy. 59 has been reopened. We caution drivers to be aware of the smoke in the area and to slow down.
Flat Rock Fire (13 Miles West on Echeta Rd./Montgomery Rd.) – The fire is estimated to be approximately 30,000 acres and expanding to the north and west. Containment is estimated at 30%. It is confirmed that some structures have been damaged from the fire and others continue to be threatened. Air resources have been assisting with suppression efforts. Please avoid the area if possible to allow for fire resources better access. Pre-evacuation notices for the areas west of Gillette will remain in effect through the night.
We are utilizing the County Road and Bridge and some private heavy equipment resources to help construct containment line at each fire. Heavy smoke will continue to be in the area. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available. We are sincerely grateful for the community's support and cooperation.

 Even at $75.00 (?) a roll, it is over a million dollars just for the wire.
I did a little shopping today. Pricing wire and posts. I wish I could get wire for $75 a roll. Prices I was quoted were $100 to $130 a roll. And that was buying in large lots, pallet of wire 27 rolls.

I haven't actually priced any wire in a really long time. And its not like you are going to be the only one out there shopping for fencing materials.
:(

There is a rumor floating around that the owner of Oregon Trail Livestock Supply is going to get a semi load of fence supply and sell them at cost. His family owned a ranch just up the valley so he has close connections with all the ranchers. Plus it is good business. Sell supplies at cost to those who are going through this disaster will make them customers for life.

If you hire a fencing contractor around here, the cost for 1 mile of fence is $12,000/mile.
That was before the fires. I'm sure demand will cause the price to rise.
That is cheap. Here it is $3 or $4 a foot. So $15,000 - $20,000 a mile.

I found out today that there is money for reseeding. Except!! Land enrolled in the grassland reserve program doesn't qualify. All of my land except the hay meadows is in grassland reserve. So they are paying me not to plow (which you couldn't do anyway, way too steep) but they won't help to replant the grass after a fire. Probably makes sense to someone in Washington DC.

I was hoping to hear something like this might/would materialize. :)

Do you not think that grass won't recover on it's own?

They burn the Flint hills every spring without reseeding,
Any fire we've had the grass recovers and it's usually better because it got rid of some woody species.

I would like to think they would get some natural regrowth, but I grew up on the coast, and have no experience with Eastern Oregon's dryer climate.
