It is the time of year we all work towards at our place. Bull sale !!
We have the the sale in our shop (others would call it sales barn) and it is a real good reason to clean it once a year. I wonder if the veterns on here like ttb and brg still get a case of the nerves close to sale time! I promised hanta and hillsdown that i would post a link to our catalogue a while back , sorry its late. http://www.gelbvieh.tv/catalogue.html

I think we will always be nervous. Heck I am ussually a wreck with all the sales I manage too. It does feel good to have it over. I love a good sale day sandwhich as long as it isn't my sale :o . But it is one of my favorite times of the year.

They look good, good luck. Good cattle are always the easiest to sell! :)

Good luck to you! A few years ago we fed a yard of gelbvieh, they were great. We were concerned with their lower feed consumption but when it came time to sell they had the best feed conversion rate of all our yards that year.

Red Robin.

Right now it looks like snow flurries. It seems like we get a shot of weather on our sale day no matter when we have it. Our best sale ever was on a cold blustery day.

I sure like your no-nonsense way of selling them.Seams really fair without any "Rafter" bidding going on.Were having our 1st sale in about a month I'm pretty nervous about it already.I have an Auctioneer working it but I may look into something like you are doing if this does'nt pan out.I am putting a floor price on them I see no sense in selling them for fat steer price thats just plain dumb.Myself though I would have priced those commercial heifers higher but you know your market better than I do.Good luck to you.

We use an auctioneer to sell the cattle that have more than one interested party.

Shortgrass
We are located about 4 & 1/2 hours north of Great Falls Montana.

Hi, El,

Thanks for posting, your bulls and heifers look great! :D  They look like ours  We'd love to come up there, maybe next year. We have to work on getting passports and on Friday sw and I have to judge the FCCLA Ag display competition.

If we get started on passports now maybe we'll have them within the year

Again, great set of cattle, your genetics look like they will do your buyers an awesome job

Wade, best of luck with the sale. I like your format too. Got Harold Milne's catalog in the mail the other day for some reason, notice he does the same format. Really like your cattle, they look good. I'm sure if our present markets were any better, you'd have those heifers priced better, too. They're worth it.

Thanks PureCountry
I had a long talk with Harold about our sale format a couple of years back and I am honoured that he has gone that direction. The start prices are always a challenge because not everyone has the same preferences. We came down with all the prices on average this year. The heifers are very well priced but we have found in the past that the animals that start low will at times out sell the higher priced animals when the bidding is done. We also consider the heifers as a drawing card for the sale. I would rather price the heifers low and draw a crowd than scare bidders away with what I told the banker they were worth.

One more comment on your sale format, it does work well. Flying Y Gelbvieh out of Laramie,WY used this format as well. It is a fun way to attend a sale, and eliminates the annoying auctioneer.

By the looks of your bulls, you may recommend buyers bring a rubber stamp with their name on it to avoid writer's cramp from signing up for all the bulls they may want to bid on! We actually did bring our stamper when we used to head over to Flying Y's sale!

Good luck, can't wait to hear how they do.

For those that are interested we had a good sale with our bulls averaging just over $3000.00 , $1400 for the PB heifers, and $ 900.00 on the commercial heifers. We sold most bulls on sale day.

Congratulations on a very good sale, elwapo. You are raising the right kind of cattle that are in demand. From pictures you have posted, I like your bulls that are deep, wide, and balanced right for eye appeal.
