Today I fixed fence on the forest allotment. The weather was perfect, and the range looks fantastic :D . Should be a great year for us up there!

How can this office view be beat???

Picture of our "impaired" water spot. This was the focus of a lawsuit involving the Clean Water Act. Several thousands of dollars later, we've fenced the area out from cattle, and it still exceeds minimum water quality standards. It falls under "primary contact" standards, which means waters where ingestion is likely to occur (boating, swimming...). Makes a lot of sense when you can barely wade in it :? .

Me and my helpers for the day :-) .

Gates pose quite the puzzle for the public... they don't only like to damage them, they also like to write nice messages for us ranchers. Someone wrote on the sign something to the effect of "F*** them Ranchers."

At least they didn't shoot down more trees...

Had a little issue with the tie rod at mile 25,175 today  . This really was the first major problem I've ever had with this wheeler.

I limped it out of there. Just had to stop about every 10-20 feet to straighten the tire back out  .

Nice pictures, Wyoming Rancher. Are your dogs trained to carry staples, and to jiggle the posts to see if they are rotten? You could strap a radio to their collars so you could hear music as you work.

I wondered how it went today...looked like a nice day. Glad you made home with the 4 wheeler! Isn't the public great :x , we just got the river locked up this week...should be interessting to see how people take it.

Thanks all! :D

No, the dogs aren't capable of fixing fence, or taking pics... they're just good, quiet company  :D . I finally figured out how to set the timer on the camera.

Today I fix fence along the forest in a school section. A few years ago they found a body from a man who had been murdered in this pasture  . My cows had trailed past him most of the summer before a fisherman found him in the willows.

I sure do enjoy ranching with the public :? .

A friend of mine in NE said practically the same thing a few yrs ago. He's just outside Chadron and there was a Prof that had gone missing.

Well, my buddy found him. It was a mess!!

My buddy called me FIRST...all frantic, " What do I do?". I said well first thing prob not be calling me in GEORGIA!!!!!

It's amazing what I've found left over from ' the public' when I've been out riding with in times past!!!

I finished fixing our first Forest Service pasture yesterday. I left the first day really irate at John Q. Public, too. Luckily we own 160 acres in it, and all our water development is on that, so we have recourse when the tanks are shot up or damaged. Can't do anything about the gates, tho. I'd sure like to catch em, just once. Otherwise, bee yoo iti ful 2 days.

Glad you weren't flying along when that tie rod end fell apart! How many hours are on that?? It does have an hour meter, too, doesn't it? Had one of the Grizzlies getting pretty well used up after being used and abused badly this winter....so replaced it with a Polaris 850; 70 hp and 800 lbs (I suffer from Tim the Toolman syndrome).....and damned if the boy didn't use it and roll it while I was gone. He got scratched up pretty good, thankfully that was all, and maybe scared some sense into him. Handlebars got twisted up on the Polaris, which is the least of my worries.

 I'm glad to hear he didn't get banged up worse. Yes, I agree, luck was on my side, and I was traveling slowly through sagebrush when it happened. I'll have to look the hours up if possible... I wouldn't normally take this wheeler to the forest, but I loaned the other one to the other permittee's husband to use, and figured this one would get me through the day...WRONG! :D

I can relate to having just dogs and a camera...enjoying the peaceful tranquility of nature...then ya see what trash the public has done and BAM you're back to reality...Things do look good up there...

Several years ago I took a drive to check a friends cattle with him on Park Land. Driving along I saw something on a far-off hillside. We drove as far as we could then walked in to find a "garden" mixed in with the trees and brush.

There was about 150 - 200 plants, a siphon hose ran about ½ mile over the hill to a Lake on the other side. There was a new generator, a new 7 drawer tool box ½ full of tools and camping gear and a Cooler.

We called it in to the Sheriff and when he and a Ranger show-up I knew them both.
They pulled the plants and WE loaded everything else in my friends Pick-up.
A Profitable Days Drive.

But the Good Part!

I knew Who's Garden it Was

I had Sold Him the Tools, Tool Box, and Generator about 2 weeks before at Quality Store (now Tractor Supply) where I worked part time.

He worked Part time at the local Auction Yard _ but Not For Long - I saw to that!

Tony my friend went back with a couple of kid and dug-up about ½ miles of 1" Rubber Hose…
