What a change in the weather, after a few nice days melting snow and even running a bit of water the wind got up last night. We didn't get much snow but what we did get sure blew around. The calves had a hard time finding shelter against the wind breaks. They sure didn't look as pretty as a couple days ago as they were covered with snow and ice and humped up.
Visibility was poor most of the day. It's colder tonight but the winds have lightened a bit. It has cleared off and the almost full moon has "Moon Dogs" around it. That would be pretty if it was so cold. :?

Hope everybody is holding up and those calving are able to get the newborns in out of the wind.

Yesterday was 66 degrees and very little wind. It was a beautiful day. Today was windy as the dickens, gusts up to 47 mph in Valentine, but I think it did get up to around 50 degrees. Now the wind has died down to about nothing, and the temperature has dropped to 25. It's kind of a pretty night with a nearly full moon shining brightly.

When the storm hit here last night we had wind gusts to 60 mph and a steady 40 or so. It was ugly! The wind was coming straight out'a the south and it was cold. Of coarse, a heifer decided to calve. We had her is a south facing shed and it wasn't providing any shelter. I was about to take the cordless drill out and screw some sheeting to the panels when the front arrived and the wind cam out of the north along with hail, lightning and then snow. We ended up with 5 inches of snow and a new black bull calf. The wind quit shortly after the snow started thankfully. It had to move out so as to share with the rest of you!

We went from having three days in the 50s to 70 mph wind to below 0 today. We don't have any calves on the ground yet and boy I am happy for that. Pretty tough to keep them alive with this weather pattern.

Twas a plain sorta day here too Lads!

-25 C with a wind that shifted from SE in the morning to NW in the evening. Some horizontal snow went by the window occasionally. Nothing broke down and there is a nice fire in the old wood heater that should keep the -22 and dropping at bay.

Stay safe and warm gang. :D

Snowed and blowed all night- about 3" of new snow-- but all in drifts....
Quit snowing about 10AM-- but continued ground blizzarding all day til this evening....Almost all highways in NE MT were closed- blew shut...

Now the temp is plunging- 1Below at 9PM with a forecast low of 15-20 Below for the next 3-4 nights..
Definitely slowing up the runoff of the +40's-+60's we had for a few days....
Everything is either in a drift- or like a hockey rink around here today...

We have seen both cold and hot here this week. Started out around -17C on Tuesday with about 2 feet of snow in the fields and this morning it is already +6C and SUNNY! :!: :D after a showery, damp day yesterday. It took about half of our snow down and there are bare spots on the knolls.

The cows went down to eating half as much as usual for the last 3 days.

Maple syrup weather! I'm planning to make a bit this year.

Silver, I saw three squirrels trying to pull-start a porcupine this morning.

Guess they must have started from up in your country.

The Kee birds were singing this morning also.

I sure wish you'd keep that stuff up there and not share...
12 Below here this morning and they are forecasting 15-20 Below all weekend...
In fact the long range is not forecasting any warm up for the rest of the month.... :(
