It started rainin yesterday evenin about 6pm...in ernest. We had some powerful thunderstorms move thru, about the time the CMA awards were on, so we only got about half that watched before the satellite went capoot. Never lost power for more than a few seconds..so that was good. But boy did it rain. Had another line come thru about 1 am. It rained all night tho. Here at the house we got 4 1/4 inches of rain. Out at the pasture we got 4 and 7/10 inches.

I've always wondered....if that'd been snow...how much would it have been? LOL

Here's a few flood pictures. Mostly just an inconvenience in the pastures. Some roads closed because of water runnin over them, but not too many.
When these pictures were taken the water had already receded about 2 foot. So sometime early this mornin is when it was at it's worst.

The first two pictures are of our cow pasture.

This one is of our railroad bridge where one of the creeks comes into the place....our floodgates are completely gone...we'll hafta get right on that when the water goes down so that cows aren't out on the road. :? Fun fun LOL

Lil Lilly havin to bale water out of the feed traugh.......why it holds water is beyond me..but the next chance I get I'm takin a drill out there and drillin holes in the bottom of it so water don't stand in it.

Man!

Rain like that would fill my dams up.

I think it would be 45 inches to about 4 1/2 feet of snow, JL. A wet snow can have an inch of moisture to 10 inches of snow. Dry snow might take a foot and a half to get an inch of rain.

It'd be a lot.

Glad all your crittewrs are alright. :)

Wow, that's a lot of rain  Hope it ends soon enough for you.

Now, if that had been snow, I think it might've been about 3 to 4 feet of the white stuff, or more.

All of our tanks were already full...so all this rain was nothin but runnin over. Tank dams that have over flows are spewin water out. Our smaller tanks don't have over flows..it just runs out the low end of the tank. Hope the cat fish are on the bottom  or they'll be pasture hoppin. I've lived here since March of 1989, and it still amazes me at the water that accumulates and then how fast it goes away when it stops rainin. I'm still a west texas girl at heart...LOL never knew it could rain like this till we came here. Big rain in west texas is 1/2 inch in a day.
The three horses out there are all up front by the corrals. All the other cows besides Lil Lilly's show heifers and the bulls, are all on the backside on higher ground. They just know...when it starts rainin.....they hightail it to the back. Usta bother me real bad that I couldn't see them, but we've only lost one calf in 16 years to drowning, and it fell off the edge of the creek into the water. Them mama's know when the water gets low enuff in the creek that the babies can cross too without problems.
LOL they may be dumb enuff to get hung on a bumper..but they are smart enuff to not drown in weather like this.

Thanks Jinglebob for the breakdown on water/snow.....I've always wondered....and I'm REALLY GLAD that wasn't snow!!!!

Guess I could tell everyone we had us a blizzard...only in thawed form.

I wish it would rain like that around here,Lilly those water gaps can be alot of work, that's why I use a solar charger, with 3 strands of wire, tied loosely on one side, water and brush knock em down, and I just tie em back...............good luck

Haymaker did you get any rain last night?

Yes,got a little last nite, its been rainning around here the last few days ,no run off tho been way too dry, supposed to get some snow & sleet tonite and tommorow................good luck

Haymaker...you could always throw a chain and padlock on the gates, hook it to your truck and just drag your place on over here next to mine.....I've got a neighbor I don't particularly care for...park your place right there on top of him.... :D and you can have all the rain you want this time of year.

Well if me and you got into a neighbor tradin contest, you would lose big time,I have got some doozies along my west fence line..........good luck
PS I might look at some places in your neck of the woods if I do a lil land tradin this year, right now Im looking in Brown county, land is still high but,the trick is sell high cuz you are gonna hafta buy high..............good luck

I'm fairly happy with the folks joinin fences with us. Except for that one. He's a lawyer. Has a nice herd of black cows....but doesn't understand the "neighborly" things to do when you have joinin fences...it's just beyond him i guess....so I have as little dealin with him as possible. If the fence is down..or damaged because of a downed tree, we don't call him to help repair.....we just do it ourselves...its easier that way. We've had his bulls on our side before....he even acts offended when you call to let him know. So....what do you do?

I think I'd rather have our -40 temps than that much moisture--I can always throw another log on the fire or put on another layer of clothes- but I can't swim.....

We can certainly use more moisture here.Lake Superior is at its lowest level in 80 years. In the last 6 months we haven't had 6 inches of moisture and our normal is 40 inches a year.

Fencing problems. Take a look at your State fencing laws.

Dry as its been around here Im not sure a flood would'nt be welcome LOL,no really I dont like deep water,I have always said ...........I dont get deep in the water or high in the sky, like it right here on dry ground :D :D ..............good luck

Gosh with all that rain do your critters grow web feet?? We too would love that much rain...these ole sandhills would soak it all up like a sponge and by the next day, you wouldn't hardly know it! Your feedbunks must be very well put together and sealed good if they hold water...it's standard around here to drill a few holes for water...don't do much good though for snow...guess ya need bigger holes! lol
