For the Rifle Shooters

Pennsylvania I am sure about. I think the Carolinas maybe.. Maybe Virginia and west Virginia.. Trying to think of where else.. Our gun season for dear is made to coincide with weekends because, hey, that is when folks can hunt. It is a real dumb law.

To claify, usually it is only game speices that are illegal to hunt on Sunday it seams. If you want to kill a non game or non fur bearing than it is okay... I don't know what that leaves you with, Feral hogs if you have them maybe? Some folks trace back the laws in New England back to the Puritans basically and the ACLU of all groups as sued in several areas trying to rverse the law as a seperation of church and state issue..

Wonder if anybody has ever killed deer with a slingshot?

I killed one with fencing pliers ...... does that count???(it was "self-defense")

and........ the ' rest' of the story please......................

Ok, here's the rest of the story.....it's really no big deal.
I was out fencing in the spring, many years ago(in the 70's when I was a teenager). I came upon a young deer caught in the fence and still alive. I was going to cut it out of the wire but it was probably about half dead already but still alive enough to try and beat the piss out of me when I got close. One smack behind the ear with fencing pliers, and it was out of its misery. End of story.

I did about the same when I found one tangled in a fence- that had about gutted herself....But I used a ballpeen hammer....

When it really is bad around here is when we have a real rough winter...Antelope move into the river bottom- but need their sage and browse and will actually starve to death eating alfalfa hay...You find them all over by the haystacks and feed areas- too weak to move....I've finished off quite a few of them......

When i was a Sk wildelife delegate for the annual meetings we hashed out the issue of sunday hunting. It came down to 2 main points. 1) opening on sunday for hunting to get more people out. 2) Letting the animls rest and not be persued by man 7 days a week a matter of animals being given a fair chance to rest from the pursuit. I can see both sides but i perfer having a day where animals and birds are not being hunted down. I know they never get a break from predators like coyotes but man is far more dangerous. It is only my personal feeling. But as i say i can see the opposing view and it's merits.

Rifle season is one month out of twelve, there are alot of hunters that work during the week so in reality your giving some "predetors" 4 days to hunt

Thanks Mike for posting this and supporting the NBRSA. Those guys are hunters and most have served in the armed forces and fought in wars. This "paper shooting" is thier hobby just like some build trains, leather work ect..
Just because they shoot at paper does not make them any less a hunter.

The season here many times lasts as long as 3 or 4 months--with the normal (buck) season running from October to around Thanksgiving-- and then more doe overpopulation or doe damage control hunts added on later....

I don't even know how many doe tags you can get over the counter, this year-- but many years you can take 5-8-10 deer a year depending on herd numbers and damage....I've seen many a pickup heading back toward Minnesota or Illinois or other points east with 20-30 deer stacked on the trailer they are pulling...

Doe tags, as far as shotgun or gun in general are two but archery doe tags are unlimited.. Than there is also the late season tag here in Illinois if counties don't meet their harvest requirments.. Tehy never do.. I think there are also 1 or 2 tags giving to a land owner per 40 acres of ground owned.. You max out at 6 free tags however (2 shot gun, two muzzle and two archery).. If you want to hunt does in this state it is pretty inviting.

Last winter I had a herd of about 50 whitetail hanging around my place, I didn't get a field of barley off and they were in there all winter.
